The tailplane on Venoms has a notably wider chord than a Vampire too.

The sawn down one on the T5 looks a little squat as a result, specially when viewed alongside my partly done NF3, but I can live with it.  ;D

In passing, Aeroclub's seats for their Vampire T11 are actually cast in one piece, both seats in one casting.  :o

Deliberately ?

Yes, the phrase 'joined at the hip' comes to mind.

Having sat in the FAA T22 at Yeovilton recently the seats are VERY close to each other, presumably why the radar ops. seat in the night fighters was moved rearwards a bit.

I can't remember sitting that close to the pilot when I flew in the T11, but I was a LOT skinnier then.  ;D

I was just about to spray the final primer coat when I remembered a couple of things.  :banghead:

The FROG wings are for an FAA Sea Venom and had wing fold panel lines and some hinge covers moulded in, so I filed off the covers and filled the fold line. Bingo, a Land Venom.  ;D

Then it occurred to me that all Venoms had longer and deeper boundary layer diverters in front of the intakes than the Vampires. I've got a Vampire nose on a Venom fuselage so the Airfix diverters are too small, so I cut and filed them off and made some new, larger ones from 10 thou. styrene. They look at bit rough at the moment so pics will come later.

This is as good as it's going to get from the PSR and primer point of view. The new diverter is the bit I've circled, not that much difference I know, but some JMN would be bound to pick up on it.

There are also differences in the shape of the u/c doors twixt land and Sea Venoms, judging by what I remember from building the 32nd Matchbox horror.  IIRC the little leading edge strips just inboard of the tip tanks also come off.

Ah yes, those little leading edge strips.

On the T5s they was found to be useful to prevent tip stalling when flown by ham fisted pupils...............  ;D

[That's 'cos I spent some time re-manufacturing the starboard one which had been short moulded  ;)]

OK, here's a question.....

Do I spray the High Speed Silver first and then mask off and do the Yellow, or the other way round? I've only ever done one RAF trainer of that period before and that was over 30 years ago!

And this business of using a pink undercoat for the yellow, which pink is best and who makes it please?

Make your own Kit unless you have something like RAF PR Pink about, and even that needs a touch of white. All the pinks that I've found are way to bright and need a fair bit of white adding. They will still work, you just need more yellow coats.

So I use Humbrol white with a dash of red.

Ah right, thanks.

I have a couple of tins of PR pink, one from Xtracolor that looks like a fugitive from a makeup counter, but the other is a Compucolor (?) tin that's very pale, just like the real stuff from the pics I've seen.

I'll give that a go.

Easier to do the yellow first, then the silver.  Just remember to prime in white before spraying yellow.

I know I'm going to regret this, but as I've two in the stash (both to be done OOB, one RN, one RAF) what is it that makes the 1/32 Matchbox kit a 'horror'? I may as well be aware of them for future reference! :banghead:

(please excuse for hijacking your thread for a moment Kit!)
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

The fit is appallingly bad. I still have nightmares about getting the engine into the fuselage after nearly 30 years.  That kit put me off 32nd for life!

I'd propably avoid the yellow danger zone through the use of decal material. I've made good experience with this tactic, e. g. for dayglo markings.
