I think he's going for the "aztec" pattern of various hull plates that got introduced on the refitted Enterprise in The Motion Picture.

Thanks guys - yes it is aztecing (the technique was introduced but not limited to Star Trek)
I will put some updated pics up later this afternoon, but I just want to say firstly that it was a huge success in my books! I couldn't be happier with the results

Well, so far so good. I need to add some more filter to the roof panels which I will do over the next day or so to bring them into line with the main body.

I'll let you be the judge on whether or not the masking was worth it







Obviously, there is still a clear coat and wash to go but yeah, am happy with how its looking
Now to do the bottom part!
