A problem with Klear

Well, not exactly the Klear itself but.......

The bottles Klear comes in are quite tall, and quite often longer than any brush you may be using, so I decant some of the stuff into a smaller container, in my case an ex-lemon curd jar. I haven't used any Klear from this container for quite a while and when I wanted to I couldn't unscrew the lid!   :banghead:

It looks like the Klear has bonded the lid to the top of the jar and currently I've no idea how to get it out, short of drilling through the lid and pouring the Klear into another container.

In future I'll  be wiping off the jar top before replacing the lid.

I use Pledge One Go which I pour into the lid (which is the size of a shot glass).  The lid then gets glued to the top of the bottle but as they are both that cheap oily plastic it isn't too hard to separate them.

I decant mine into an old Liquid Poly bottle (sans brush) but it still sticks!

I use an empty Vegemite jar, and I have never had any problem with the lid sticking. Maybe it is the type of plastic that the lid is made of.

run the cap under a very hot tap for a few minutes, this will usually soften the klear it enough to be able to unscrew it

That's what I was going to suggest.

I use an old Tamiya jar/pot. Not the standard small paint jar size but the taller version. I think I actually bought it for a couple of bob at a Southern Expo. I do get a residue at the top of the container, but never enough to cause problems and a sharp twist is the most that's ever needed to open it.

My ex-lemon curd jar has a metal lid with a rubber seal in it, and it's a glass jar, so those two don't seem to mix too well with added Klear.

I've sorted it now, by buying a SERIOUSLY heavy duty 'Grip It' device from the local 'We sell everything' shop, and that had the lid off in jig time. Of course I had to hold the jar with the other hand, as it was impossible to prevent spillage due to the massive jerk when it came undone, I have what may be the shiniest left hand in the country.............

Or maybe a sign that Vegimite is repulsive to everything...:)

Does the Clear smell of Vegemite?
I avoid reusing Vegemite jars when I make Marmalade as I find that the plastic lids can still smell of the stuff even after a good go through the dosh wisher.

The other thing you can do is bang the lid sharply against the bottom of something like a table or shelf. We do this all the time at work with glue jars, although they are all-plastic, so I'd advise caution doing it with glass...

Klear (assuming it is the same as Future/One Go) is ammonia based.
So to losen a stuck llid you should just need to turn the jar upside down and drip some windex into the threads so it runs down between the jar and the lid.
Works on paint jars (using thinners) so should work on Klear.

Yup a very careful sharp tap will nearly always work. Especially after a short bathe in warm water. Different expansion rates etc.

Ah, I need to keep an eye out for one of those. I think there's a similar shop up the Palace.

Vegemite ? Had one Australian girlfriend who loved it and another who hated it. Reminded me of Marmite and I could either take it or leave it dependent on whether I needed to curry favour or not
