The Vatican Avibus Crucis



The Avibus Crucis (Birds of the Cross) the display team of the Vatican was formed in 1962 using the Fiat G-91 aircraft. The aircraft were painted white and yellow and carried the Vatican coat of arms on the wings and fuselage and the colours of the Swiss Guard on the tail.
Their signature display figure was a six ship cross.
The final display of the Avibus Crucis was in 1990 after which the team was disbanded.

Very nice.
BUT, if I remember my latin from more than 50 years ago, avibus is the dative case. It would mean "to the birds". Nominative is simply aves.
