Can I ask what a 'Vulcan AEW radome' actually is please?
An effing big radome, I think Mossie was planning on scratching one at one stage, its in one of Chris Gibson's books, but cant remember if Air Defence one or Vulcans Hammer

It is in Battle Flight, p124. It certainly is BIG but I somehow do not think it would be made out of wood (Terry Pratchet, Raisng Steam).

Thank you so much for your accurate description.. It's like a big effing pancake.

I've got pics but don't know how to upload here. If you have an email address, I'll send them on

I finished the radome and mounted it on a Vulcan, it stalled as I wanted to convert it to B.1 standard (actually B.1A as kept the kit nose).  I had trouble integrating the Flighpath replacement leading edges, they kept popping out during the PSR sessions.  It might be worth picking it up again.

Effing big radome is right.  Imagine a Gannet radome with a circumference that covers the Vulcan's bomb bay.  IIRC, it wasn't a concrete proposal but a study to see what platforms could take a large radar.  Vulcan won hands down.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

They need to be on a hosting site and then you link from there.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

No, no need: I know exactly what you mean now (I've got Battle Flight, I just forgot about this drawing).

I asked because I wondered if it might be one of the 'flying battleship' Vulcan types with AI radar and loads of AAMs, and 'AEW' was a misnomer.

It's a big going to slow down the Vulcan thingy.   :-X

I just received my first kits and bits from SpotOn Designs.  Thanks to Joe and Karen.

The Vulcan AEW dome is massive. A 1/72 drawing is provided to help with placement and painting.

I can't imagine the aircraft being able to fly with that monster hanging underneath.  :o :o

Perhaps a future project could be to make the Vulcan AEW dome in 1/144th and/or 1/200th scales, since there are now Vulcans available in both?

Doesn't look much different to the EC-121 under fuselage radome for size to me ---

Saw one of these at the Glasgow show to-day and I would agree it looks about the same size as the EC-121 belly radome.
