I've been wanting to build Tamiya's lovely little 1/48 F4F Wildcat for a while, but couldnt decide on the scheme for it.  I won a lot of assorted decals on eBay a few months back that included RN decals for Wildcat MkVIs...which is a later mark of the Wildcat then the F4F...but I liked the decals to here is a barely whiffed Wildcat.

The Wildcat VI was the later FM2 Wildcat I believe with a different engine and four guns vs six.

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

I've always liked that scheme as well, nice job on it

Pretty. I did a similar Wildcat (1:72, Hobby Boss) a while ago, but with a bubble canopy as a whiffy extra.

Knightflyer

Yes I like that too!  ;D What paint did you use on it?
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

Good question, it's got that very slightly greenish tinge to it that real thing had, Very nicely done indeed.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

Thanks guys!

Paint is Hataka Dark Sea Blue acrylic from the USN set.  It goes on very nicely.  Sitting on the shelf beside the USN Corsair ai did earlier in the year there is a distinct difference in the shade.  The Corsair is in Tamiya's enamel Dark Sea Blue.

I've got the Hataka Polish and French WWII colour sets and they are very good.

Yup, the Tamiya Dark Sea Blue is rather greenish and intense!

I was typing in a hurry when I replied yesterday...the Corsair from earlier in the year is NOT in Tamiya paint.  I wasnt thinking...it was the first kit I built after a break of many years, and I just painted it with a rattle can of Testors MM Dark Sea Blue enamel.

In my eyes the Wildcat is far closer to the actual color.

It certainly looks very close to the RW one they re-furbished at Yeovilton a while ago.
