It's a Comet, Jim, but.....

Very generous comments, thanks guys (and a Whiffy nomination too - cheers TomZ).
This was a frustrating build.  I had the idea in my head and I'm pleased to say it looks how I thought it would look. But it was a struggle.
Put aside the shortcomings of the kit, I knew what I was letting myself in for.
The Whirlybits detail set was a disappointment but I'll admit I probably didn't approach it with the right level of patience. Can't put my finger on it but none of the parts fitted the way I expected.  The canopy in particular was a letdown.
Then the markings - home made but the blue background didn't quite match and limitations of my inkjet printer so I ended up painting around each letter.  More frustration!

Anyway, 4th whiffed Airfix Comet.  I should say that's enough but I have a build idea eating away at me.
This all started a few weeks ago when I took the missus to her book club meeting and was shown her host's hubby's Batcave.  Basically a room devoted to his Batman stuff, mainly (but not only) model Batmobiles through the ages and from around the world.  We started talking about 'what if Batman was British' - Batmobile basis (Mk 1 Cortina), Batplane basis, etc.
First Batplane was seen in 1939, so what would a British Batman fly?
I reckon something based on a Comet (it has a seat for Robin).  Minimal change (just Batify the trailing edges)? Or something a bit radical?

Tempted.  If I see a cheap Airfix Comet.

Maybe.

My mind is ALREADY boggling!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

As is mine too!

Surely Batman would use a custom  Landrover, as Judge Dredd did in the films  https://www.landrovercentre.com/product/npk63p/
or

Surprisingly, they are ROAD LEGAL vehicles.

ARE road legal.

They still exist and one of them is in the Gaydon Museum, I saw it there a few months ago.
