Has anyone actually written to Revell and asked them ?

Not sure, but the TIE cockpit ball has to be of 2 metres diameter  and (as said) the pilot seems proportional. Adds nothing to thread but might give a scale for those inclined.

No idea if it's to "scale" or not but if you get £350 in your Xmas box then this might interest some
