Things I learned this weekend

After trying numerous methods of masking canopies I went back to the old standby of scotchtape (sellotape) well I missed a spot on the 1/48th Mig and had a nice silver stripe across the middle. Taking my life in my hands (its a Christmas present) I moistened a Q-tip in mineral spirits gave it a quick wipe and it came right off with no effect on the clarity. Guess the prior future dip is a must.
Also in the sewing section of Wal Mart i found quilters masking tape which was $1.49 1/4" wide and twice as much on a roll as tamiya stuff and I used it this weekend and it's great. But what I want to know is
1. whats the best way to get the scotch tape off the canopies, I try exacto knives, cocktail sticks and always end up scratching at it frantically with my fingernails.
2. Tamiya masking tape left residue on the BMF on the Mig. It's bumper chrome paint frome the auto store sprayed through my airbrush. Will an alcohol wipe get this off or will it dissapear when i future it? Gotta put the future coat on Wednesday at the latest.

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Strange that the Tamiya tape left residues on the NMF.  I never had this problem, both with Metalizer and ALCLAD II stuff.

Thanks for the tape tip from Wal-Mart. I buy some stuff there, like paint brushes, but never thought of tape !

And for good masks, try parafilm. Stuff is awesome ! I also use it for camo and anything else. Just lay it on, rub it down, and being as it's transparent, you can cut out any panles or canopy frames with ease.

Peels right off as well.

Cheers !

Is the residue the glue from the tape?  If so you could try some IPA (and I don't mean the beer!   )

Toad where do I gety parafilm? i'll try anything once.

And on closer inspection it wasn't tape residue but had actually pulled some of the paint up marring the surface, so I guess I need to leave more than 18 hours for the paint to cure but these are on a deadline and they still look pretty.

Merry Krimble everyone!

Hiya, Leigh !

It's called parafilm "M" Laboratory Film, and it's made by American National Can. Testors used to market it under the Model Master label, but I've heard they've since stopped. Which is quite puzzling, as once you've used it, you won't go back !

You can even lift the edges just a wee bit, to get a softer demarcation line between colours on camo.

Try a web search, and good luck ! "cause if you can get it, get me some !
