I don't often use my Olfa circle cutter, but when I do it's a good tool  Works well on thin plasticard as well.

You don't say?! Ha!!! Never would have guessed that one. I'll remember that tip for future use. Just so happens I have some 0.25 stuff that's about as thick as decent paper.

Might be awhile before I use it, but I'm looking forward to it. I can recall a few times where I wish I had a way to cut tape into circles or cut circles OUT of the tape. This won't be an every-day tool, but will be quite useful for when I DO need it.

Bovington has a modern replica of an A7V, but it was only built in 2009 according to Wikipedia.

The Germans copied Mephisto, the sole surviving A7 in Brisbane back in the early 1990s IIRC.   They then built an accurate replica which they have on display in Germany.  I am unsure if they created more, which is perhaps what the Bovington one might be.

No, the Bovington one was built by a British company who specialise in restoring old military vehicles. Looking at it, it's very convincing, but the tracks are much too thin. This doesn't seem to inconvenience it much though, since it's structure is apparently mostly plywood...

The tank museum A7V was built for War Horse, along with the Mark IV in the video.  The tank museum were asked to use their original Mk IV but declined as they stopped running it some years back as it's becoming frail.  They advised on the replicas on the basis that they could buy them after filming was complete.  They used the running gear from something modern, hence the tracks look a little weedy (and probably perform much better than the original).

Krupp built the armour for later versions, they used smaller panels.  Earlier versions had the the sides of the A7V produced as one large panel.  One difficulty for WWI tank modellers is that of only twenty A7V's made, many of them differ in detail from each other as they never geared up to full production.

Very much so, to make life even more difficult for the poor JMN, many were modified over their lives too!

Below is a guide for converting the Emhar kits to other A7V's to give you an idea of the size of the task.  The Emhar 1/72 and 1/35 kits are an early version with the single armour plate and "bock" (pedestal) mounted main guns.  IIRC, they chose this layout because they could get the most tanks out of it, the only optional extra they provide is the exhaust silencer, several tanks just had a hole in the armour plate.

The Meng kit is a later variant, with multiple armour plates and the "sockle" gun mount.  I've built the Emhar 1/72 kit, I'd like to do "Gretchen" the only female, you need to buy two kits to do it.  I've just read on another page on the landships forum that original plans were to produce the males with two 57mm guns so that solves a problem of what to do with the spare parts!

Typical 1950's American, everything is roomy. which gives me lots of scope to use it as a basis for conversions.

Which remindes me of the old tale, that when the P-47 Thunderbolt came into the RAF's inventory, pilots were advised "When under fire from enemy fighters.
Undo straps, and run around the cockpit to avoid the bullets" !!!!!

Managed to complete my Airfix 1/24 red box WWII kit collection this evening with finally getting my paws on the FW190. Well until next month when the Hellcat gets released.
