The Wooksta!

A Hasegawa Hurricane mk Ia arrived from ebay today, from the same seller who I got the Cessna 02 from.  The latter had a very nice letter in it and I felt somewhat guilty that I was passing the kit on (it had the desired effect when I did so).

I was also gifted a Red Roo RAAF Lincoln upgrade set for the Blackbird Lincoln conversion on saturday.

Not quite a model but ...

A U-shaped desk 2100mm x 2700mm x 1800mm (maybe more J-shaped; I think those were the measurements, I'll confirm later) for the new modelling room;

It's great to get your own dedicated space  Means you can just pop in for the off 10/15 mins when the spirit takes you. Getting my own room completely changed the way I model.....for the better

Enjoy putting it up ; remember No Swearing  ;)

It's built! ;D

Minimal swearing, mostly related to trying to get screw holes to line up. :banghead:

It takes up almost the entire room! :o

I'll try to get a photo up tomorrow.

Now, for Fred:

The Meng Rolls Royce Armoured Car 1914/1920 arrived today. ;D

Quick In-Box review through the plastic wrap: It's a nicely molded kit with crisp details & minimal flash (if any) but there are a few ejection pin marks (some with a little flash) which may or may not be visible when parts are put together. Kerbside (no engine, sump pan molded in with the inner chassis). Bonnet & crew compartment are molded as a single unit but I don't recall seeing any internal parts/details on the sprues. Four versions, two for each model - RNAS & an unidentified user but with cool camo scheme (1914), & 2 x RAF schemes (1920) one in Caunter-sans-blue scheme. Nice looking Boys anti-tank rifle, Vickers & Lewis guns. 1914 model tyres are styrene with PE spoked wheels. 1920 tyres are rubber/vinyl with solid (styrene) rims.

Differences between the models include wheel arches, running boards, tool box(es), wheels (as mentioned above), radiator armour, turret & turret roof.

Instructions look quite easy to follow but you have to remember that almost every page has the same step illustrated for each model of armoured car.

Overall, I'd say it looks to be a good kit that shouldn't take too long to build OoB; with the trickiest part being the choosing & painting of anything other than a plain, monochrome scheme.

So, I came home from the IPMS-Seattle Spring show with only a few things, got rid of one and made money.

Spring show:
Meng World War Toons KV-2 (Keeping)
Dragon 1/35 Firefly Vc (Sold)
Several Squadron "in action" series books

Facebook Group:
Italeri 1/72 KV-1 m41 heavy tank (Making it Finnish, but putting a T-34/76 color scheme on it)

Facebook friend:
MPC 1/72 Centurion MBT (105mm main gun) (Holy Grail kit)

Thanks for that mate.
The Roden kit (I have the 1920 version with sand tyres) is full(ish) detail with a rather nice engine.  It almost felt wrong to build mine with the bonnet closed.  Inside it has seats, floor board detail, steering wheel, pedals and gear levers but no moulded detail on the walls.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Sounds like the Roden kit is more complete than the Meng kit. How the Meng kit goes together is the next question.

*Bouncing like Tigger here* ;D ;D ;D

Looked at Ebay on Saturday morning and what did I see? A Huma 1/72nd Dornier Do J II Wal flying boat going for a not-cheap-but-reasonable price, because a) poor choice of day and time to have an auction ending and b) the civilian decals have been cut out of the decal sheet.

It arrived this morning. The kit builds a military J IId (open cockpit + 3xMGs), a civilian J IIb (open cockpit trainer + no guns) or a civilian J IIe (enclosed cockpit + no guns). Painting chart printed with silver ink, no less!

Just received from the Big H, the An-26 'Skull'.
This a/c was given this special scheme for the part it played in the film "Expendables 3"

Why did I buy this kit?
Well here is the photo that I took of it when it visited Prestwick (my local airport) in June 2014.

Well I could not resist the model, could I?

So what am I going to do with it?
The plastic, no ideas, yet!

The Skull markings for the Expendables, I am still looking for a suitable donor.

Captain Canada

A friend of mine texted to say there were cheap kits over at the Goodwill store. 32 bucks later :

Airfix Comet, S.6B, Firefly, and Hunter, Matchbox Panther and Frog Attacker.

The 10 dollar new release A-4 also had three sets of aftermarket decals !

The Wooksta!

Ebay says I've won that assembled Fairey Hendon that I was bidding on.  It's sans tail feathers but I'm sure I can cobble them together from some spare Whitley ones I have kicking about.

From Uncle Frank:
2 Xtradecal British Pacific Fleet markings sets in 48th - I need the larger roundels for Lancasters.
and one of these:

Just need the markings from a Tucano and a 607 Sqn shield and I'm laughing.

Yikes - 500 pieces in the 1/72 Valkyria??!!  :o :o
What, do they make you build every component that's in the real craft?

Joking, I know it's a 'Limited to 500 kits produced' thing, I'm in a funny mood.

Finally snagged a second 1/72 Hobby Boss Bf-110, so the twin-boom variant I saw on BtS can go ahead. Eventually.

A 1/35 Tusk resin figure of Sgt Brad carrying an Stg-44. Nice model, should paint up well.

From a deceased Friend's stash:
a built-up Airfix Hood for an AeroDreadnaught conversion
(see here:)
https://www.reddit.com/r/ImaginaryWarships/comments/2dxx99/aero_dreadnought_by_colorcopycat/?depth=1

LOTS of spares, sheet plastic, balsa, flocking, bases, moulds, odds'n'sods of random kit bits and stuff. Some of which I'd given him in the first place...  ;D
Some I will be using for my own builds, others (such as the Hood) will be done as tribute builds to him, as I think I can see where he would have gone with them.

I got given a wooden model of Leonardo da Vinci's Helicopter when I left work earlier in the year. Different, and intriguing. Have to get on with that, especially as I'm back there now and I'm thinking there will be queries on progress some time soon...
