Back from the Driffield show today with a new addition.

Special Hobby 1/72 AJ-37/SK-37 Viggen duo pack with book.

First impressions?  Love Viggens, never built one.

Looks pretty good to me.
Chris.

Old Wombat

This order arrived today:

Quote from: Old Wombat on July 30, 2019, 11:40:33 PM
1 x Amusing Hobby 1/35 Pz.Kpfw.38D mit Pz.IV Tum 8cm PAW 600 (AH-35A019) [on Pre-Order] - to add to my stash of unbuilt LT v 35/38 derived vehicles (when it comes)
1 x Legend Productions 1/35 US Army Vehicle Crew #3 (LF0128) - for my RQ-19A diorama
1 x Master Models 1/35 ATK Mk 44 (Bushmaster II) 30mm Gun Barrel used on KTO Rosomak & Other Vehicles (1pc) (GM-35-012) - I'll be getting more of these when they restock
1 x Trumpeter 1/350 Fairey III F (6 pcs) (TR 06252) - the start of my Dreadnought-class aircraft carrier conversion air group
1 x Trumpeter 1/350 HMS Cornwall County-class Heavy Cruiser (TR 05353) - to be RAN ca. WW2

Another with a pre-order in it. I think I've learned my lesson:- Any orders with pre-orders are to consist ONLY of pre-orders!

The pre-order, Amusing Hobby's 1/35 Pz.Kpfw.38D mit Pz.IV Turm 8cm PAW 600, is a paper-Panzer whif-in-a-box. The Modelling News has an In-Box Review & a Build Review on it &, from my relatively brief look, I agree with their assessment. My favourite line in their in-box review is "an unusual and interesting kit that will leave even "what-if" modellers saying "What IS it?""
Has a life outside of What-If & wishes it would stop interfering!

Been there and done it and it can get terribly frustrating. Glad you got them in the end  :thumbsup:

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Anything is better. Maybe not the Airix one, but that could be a dead race.

A friend of mine got that double combo, too, and he's very enthusiastic about the kit. Pricy, but probably the best current 1:72 Viggen around.

Airfix has Rb 05 missiles in addition to the Rb 04E's, but on the downside it has the wrong drop tanks (Draken tanks that supposedly hang on the dry fuselage pylons). Both Airfix and Hasegawa represent the mock-ups and have all the antennae, hatches, etc. in the wrong places and most notably, don't have the area-ruled fuselage "hump" that was added to later prototypes and the production version to improve performance. So yes, it's a dead race between those two.

For once, even Matchbox would be better, at least it's the production version and comes with both 04E and 05 missiles and the correct drop tank (AJ boxing; Sk boxing drops the 05's for the two-seater parts).

Of course, Heller is even better than Matchbox and in current "JA" boxings builds to any Viggen variant, including the SF photorecon version (though if you want to build an accurate JA you would have to insert a 2mm plug in the fuse between the wings and the canards and replace the three fins of the drop tank with four; at least the conformal gun pod of JA is included even though it's not not very accurate). Though, Heller does not have any Swedish-specific ordnance or any ordnance for that matter, only Sidwinders and Skyflashes and even those only in the JA boxing, so you'll have to raid other kits (eg. those other Viggens or Revell's old, original, and awful Gripen) or aftermarket parts for things under the wings - but then again, the lack of Swedish ordnance is a good excuse for whiffing.... :rolleyes:

I have about half a dozen Heller Viggens and two Matchbox two seaters.  Both are better than the prototype Airfix or Hasegawa ones.    :thumbsup:

Interesting and usefull.  Thanks blokes.
Of course as whiff fodder, accuracy is not of prime importance.  Viggen wings are a pleasing, if distinctive shape.  I used an Airfix pair on a MiG 21.

Three deliveries arrived today.

From Ronin Graphics three sets of transfers (all 1/72);
ADF Eurocopter Tiger (for the Aerospatiale Oryx).
Australian Army Bell 47G (for a RW build).
RAAF F-35 delivery markings (for a J-20 Mighty Dragon).

From Frontline Hobbies;
Two more of these.

I now have four.  This is what happens when you forget to cancel a pre-order having got some from elsewhere.  However, it is one of my favourite kits (i've built two in the past).  Having four go karts I may have to whiff up a six wheeled Tyrrell-a-like...

I LIKE that idea, and you could do a March (or Williams)-a-like with the other two. And with twin engines as well.  :thumbsup:
