Ordered a Bandai Star Wars Scout Trooper & Speeder Bike 1/12 combo directly from Japan - have plans to create a whiffy "version" in a desert setting, though, maybe including a matching base/diorama.

Old Wombat

Maybe not an exciting purchase for some but certainly one for me:

3 x Master Models 1/35 ATK Mk 44 (Bushmaster II) 30mm Gun Barrel used on KTO Rosomak & Other Vehicles (1pc) (GM-35-012) - because they're useful
4 x Master Models 1/350 HMS Exeter 1939 Armament - Barrels for Trumpeter kits (SM-350-108) - I have 3 x 8"-gun ships to build, 2 of them 8-gun ships & the set comes with only 6 barrels
1 x Trumpeter Models 1/35 Italian PUMA 4x4 Wheeled AFV (TR 05525) - a cool looking vehicle going cheap, so why not!
1 x Academy Models 1/48 Royal Navy Helicopter Wessex UH.5 (AC 12299) - the Wessex is a funky chopper & the RAM's could do with some.

This idea has a tonne of potential! The scout troopers  could be camouflaged, I know we didn't see much Imperial camo in the Original Trilogies, but if they used it in the Clone Wars, it's safe to say they used it in the Galactic Civil War. It could be a desert planet they haven't completely pacified yet. But I love the idea of this! You could also paint the speeder bike up in a sand tone, as the brown blended into the woods... Just a thought.

I've got one of those in the stash and I just won the 1/72 Blackbird conversion Avro Lincoln set along with the Airfix  Fairey Rotodyne.

Yeah! That's the same one I just from Chrisonord, HUGE isn't it?

Just  got another  kit from Dadlamassu's stash reduction.  A revell  Fairey  Rotordyne.  Very  nice  looking  kit and has tons of whiff potential.  I am thinking of  having  it as an RAF transport  in the early 60's.  I am pondering  whether to  remov3 the rip jets from the rotors,  and put a pair of engines at the base of the rotor  mast, or build in a single  turbine  engine,  I  should  have some  bits thatwill do the job.

I happened to wander into the local Toy World today only to find 25% off model kits.
A limited choice in the one true scale but I did pick up an Airfix Ju 52-3M.  The engines will be perfect for Captain Fat Hamster's dirigible (when I get to building it - Sea Witch has to be finished first but I now have all the major components) and floats are always handy.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Well at least you allowed for it at the purchasing stage, I can think of at least one person who probably wouldn't have  :banghead:

On a serious note, are these turned barrels worth the extra expense ? I was particularly thinking of 1/700 scale ones.

I can't afford them for all my builds but I've found that 1/35 gun barrels are vastly superior to any styrene (or even resin) version I've seen.

One of the builds isn't a British warship but will be getting British 8" guns in a post-war refurbishment. ;)

Cheers mate. I'm popping down to a model shop in Dorking which specialises in ship models (going by his stand at Southern Expo anyway)  in the next couple of weeks. Mate doesn't realise that it just happens to lie on the route of one of the local CAMRA walks  ;)

CAMRA = Campaign for real ale

That's actually the plan/idea. The driver will be camo'ed in sand and brown tones, the bike might remain very original since it is already brown-ish and black - but I might add some desert details like air filters. I am also considering a base for "in flight" display, but that might become quite large. Maybe a subtle holder must suffice, it's a storage space issue.  ;)

If you do that you'll need to make some arrangements for an anti-torque rotor or exhaust as a direct shaft drive to the main rotor that large will give LOTS of torque.

Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Thankyou for the heads up on that Kit, it didn't  cross my mind  about  the torque  reaction.  I am thinking  of building it standard  now  as another idea,  and  painting it in  middle east  RAF colours.  I  need to  find  some  decent  pictures,  as some  had white on rhe upper surfaces  and  desert yellow / earthy  brown  camouflage on the sides,  no3 seen the underside  yet though.

Which I am determined to get to this year on either my way to, or return from SMW

The Wooksta!

Picked up the new Revell Shackleton MR3 today, plus some Spitfire PR decals.  The former is just a donor kit - I disliked the Revell AEW 2 kit - for a planned Avro 711 Trader, using the kit wings, engines and u/c with the fuselage and tail surfaces from a Magna Ashton.  The Traders were to be civilian cargo carriers, but naturally, mine will have to be RAF.
