Info re 1/72 FW190D9

Dear friends.....a brief search reveals no results although I thought I saw, quite a while ago, a question posted about which is the best 1/72 FW190D9...(or 11/13)...so who does a really good one....? I am aware of the old Hasegawa one. Not sure about the Italeri one...raised panel lines...? There is the old Airfix one....
Would also consider a Ta152C....I'm sure Dragon did one in 1/72...
I have had a brief look online but if anyone has personal experience of any kits I would love to hear/read it. Even though I love it....only built the Hase one....many thanks...H

I built the 1/72 Hasegawa FW 190D (1976 mould). Not sure which sub-type. My notes say;

Typical 1976 Hasegawa mould. Detail is a bit soft, limited interior (floor, instrument panel, seat, stick & pilot) but fit is good.

Panel lines are raised. As far as I know they are still popping out kits from this mould. As you can see they can be got for a lot less than Hasegawa would like you to pay for a new one.
No idea how accurate it is but to me it looks like an FW 190D.

The Tamiya version is good and probably better than any of the manufacturers that you have listed.

Depends on how you define "best"? I have bullt a few, and actually like the Italeri kit a lot, despite its age. Detail is not bad at all (simple but nice cockpit tub, two canopy options, good landing gear), and it goes together well.
The Academy kit is more modern, appears very accurate to me and the material is more "solid" - but the clear parts are rubbish, because you will later see the sprue attachment points unless you want to sand and polish the canopy parts from the inside...
The old Airfix kit is better avoided, and there's the Intech/Mistercraft kit, which is cheap and not THAT bad, but certainly nothing for those who want something "realistic". It's outlines are a little "square" and crude, but overall it's a better kit than one would expect. The simple Hobby Boss kit is not bad, either - if you are keen on the exterior and ona budget, it's IMHO actually worth a look.

Concerning the Tamiya Fw 190 D-9, make sure you get the 2000+ kit - there are older D-9 kits, but these are the Italeri molds.

Cannot say much about the Dragon offerings, even though I have at least one Ta 152C in the stash and it looks promising - but these things are costly.

Thanks for the replies.....I have built a few of the old Hasegawa kits. They are ok.
Dizzy.....was looking at something a bit more modern mould wise than the old kit I have mentioned. Take it the Hasegawa kit that scored well is a new mould.
Not a member of Britmodeller but saw a link to a conversation on there from a few years ago..... interesting stuff. I think performance wise not much in it D9/11/13 v Ta152c....? Think the Ta152c was heavily armed compared to a D9....

I thought all Tamiya 1/72 kits were Italeri repops, and they only make their own kits in other scales?

Not silly at all mate. The side of the box that has the paint numbers to be used on it also has a date on it. Not always in the same place however so you need to look.

I can't tell you the kit number as I've built mine.

On checking where the date was I noticed some of the kits are made in the Philipines. Never knew that.

Check scalemates.com for the Tamiya Fw 190D-9 entry - there you'll find a timeline of the different releases/boxing (and info concerning what's inside!), together with the box artwork. Very useful source when you are looking for a specific kit/mold.

Went through a FW190D phase a few years ago. I agree the 'proper Tamiya' Dora is the best of the bunch.
Had EDIT: ~~(still have maybe?)~~ the Academy kit which looked nice in the box and until Dizzy pointed it out wasn't aware of the canopy issue.
I'd rate the Airfix and Italeri kits as equals. The former is a straightforward build (good for kitbashing) and has been issued under the Heller label. The canopy arrangement is a bit disappointing but can be lived with.
The latter's plastic is rather thin.
Wouldn't bother with the others.

As for Ta152s the old Revell kit is in fact the FROG effort. The Dragon kit IIRC is reputedly very complex to build.

Concerning the Ta 152, there's also a H kit (with the long wings) from ART Model from the Ukraine - have one in the stash and it looks very good, but I haven't built it yet (only their F8F so far - but it's a VERY good short run kit with resin parts). Besdies, it's not as pricey as the Dragon kit(s).
