I looked, too, when I read that he'd scratched it.  I'd thought it was from a doll house furniture set ... I guess I'm really out there.  :) 

Barmy Modelers Unite!  You know who you are - if you've ever painted a watch/moustache/eyebrows/hat logo on a model figure; scratch-built a replacement for a kit part "because mine is more accurate"; bought kits for the parts within, not to build - and more, but I can't think of them right now.
