GTX post remind me the Dahu difficult life (levogyre and dextrogyre species living each on the opposite side of the mountain) :P
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Tophe

Uh, I think it is not exactly that, Archibald: they live on the same mountain/dome but turn in opposite direction, unable to walk back, ever...
For Dahu airplanes with different lengths port/starboard of landing gear, on a slanting runway, horizontal on the side of a mountain: levogires and dextrogires may use the very same runway, while in opposite directions... a nightmare for the mechanics/firemen/fuel-employees/air-controllers... :(

QuoteI had made a 1/72 Airfix Catalina in the 1970s, still standing here on top of a piece of furniture, but this model is so huge (more than 1.5 feet span, 45cm), I won't ever make it double...
As my old 1/72 Catalina span is so wide, I consider modifying it into an asymmetric single engine – almost logical: a single engine is perfect for low speed patrol with maximum range, and to reduce drag and weight, removing one engine is good but it is better to remove also a part of the span and the second float: only the heavy-engine big-wing side needs a float...
From this smaller model, I may Photopaint new Twin-Catalinas, either symmetric or asymmetric...

So here is the PBY-66 Catamaranlina (double PBY-33, Twin-Singelina, see http://www.whatifmodelers.com/forum//index...showtopic=10467 )
[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]

Tophe

Symmetric or not: twin-engine twin-tail anyway, Catamaranlina...

PS. The view is rather poor for the internal observers facing each others...

You probably know the Lockheed F-5 LightNing, foto-reco version of the P-38. Some of you may know the prototype XF-5, but for sure none of you know the weird top-secret   project between them: YF-5 LightDaring (cancelled at last). To improve the pilot visibility, circling around a spot on the left, it was an asymmetric Lightning...

QuoteI considered a B-17 Zwilling.
More original than my B-17Z, here is an improved Flying Fortress: XB-38Z with P-38 in-line engines (and twin-tail). Not as weird as Eddie's B-17/KC-135 hybrid, but dated 1943 to match my 39-45 focus...

PS. B-38 is not a what-ifer joke mixing B-17 with P-38, but a USAF code after the B-37, yes! Ask Google if you don't believe it: http://images.google.fr/images?q=XB-38&hl=...rche+d%27images

Here is the Vought SB2U-11 Twin-Vindicator of 1939. The shadow has an explanation: this picture was taken in a Universe of mine, with twin-suns...

In the topic http://www.whatifmodelers.com/forum//index...showtopic=10673 , Archibald asked "Anigrand XB-42, any what-if idea?". Of course, dear: the original XB-42Z, prototype of 1944 with 4-engined /4-propellers /far less drag than B-17/B-24/B-29:

Thanks to Zuid99 topic http://www.whatifmodelers.com/forum//index...showtopic=10676 , here is the Twin-Zerstorer Me 110KZ, simple fighter 1943 with 6 piston engines, waiting for the jet power to come.

Heavier 6-engined 1943: Sparviero Bifusoliera SM-797 (yes, Boeing will have to pay a Copyright the next time...).

Further to the 3-engined Ar 234Z-1 (see at http://www.whatifmodelers.com/forum//index...40&#entry146171 ), here are the 4-engined Ar 234Z-2, 6-engined Ar 234Z-3, 8-engined Ar 234Z-4, all of early 1945:

Well, it could be made with 1/72 kits like those: http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=BK95972
