TBH, all you really need to do is put a canopy over the original kit and open out the cockpit, rather than any more drastic surgery a la cut and shut.  Both the Sea Hawk and Panther are wide enough.  I've seen it done with the former a few years back.

Yes for a trainer, but a night-fighter needs to get an AI radar in there as well. The Panther's nose is full of guns.

The nose section is now on at a better angle, it just took a little bit of carefull sanding of the front face of the Sea Hawk, and the first stage of PSR has begun, really just filling the holes where the Vampire intakes would have been. When that has dried a bit the real fun begins.

While the PSR continues around the front of the model, I have started on the rear fuselage.
First as I am using the taller fin/rudder of the German Kreigsmarine Mk 100/101, this to offset the larger forward keel area of this conversion, I have had to do a little bit more cutting and PSR. This is bexause Hobby Boss have moulded the D/F loop housing as an integral part of the rear fuselage.
So I have glued a bit of  plasticard inside the fuselage and have now sanded away the offending lump. This is no problem.
However the fit of the rear fuselage to the front portion shows that there is a fair bit of  PSR to be done in this area.
See the photos.

The Rear fuselage sections are glued to the main fuselage and PSR, or at least P, has started

Work has also started on the cockpit, first the pilots. I always like to put aircrew into my models!
The two pilots are glued lightly to a section of H beam Plastruct for ease of working. The one on the right is from an older model (can't remember what) but is all set to go and will be used as a painting pattern for the other one.
You may recognise them as Matchbox pilots which are spot on for the time period of this model in terms of their flight kit.

The ejector seats are OOB Airfix and are not bad representations of the real things. Airfix have even moulded in a couple of little "dinkles" where, if you want, you can drill holes to take fine wire for the firing handles.

Given how old those pilot figures are Jim they are very nice, and that's before you started painting

I am enjoying watching this one!

PSR on the fuselage and nose sections is now complete, or as complete as I am going to bother.
I do believe that this re-working of the Hawker design has not in any way detracted from the graceful lines of the Seahawk.

The next step is the cockpit interior.

Indeed so Jim, it works remarkably well.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

That just looks 'right', doesn't it.

Well done.

AeroplaneDriver

To me the new longer nose gives it a bit of a McDonnell look...almost like a two-seat Phantom (the first one).  Looking good!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

TheChronicOne

I am impressed, this is very cool!!!  Great work!!!!

Ha! Someone has been reading my thoughts, although I was thinking more of the F2H-3/4 Banshee.
Funnily enough I happen to have one of those in the stash.

It certainly looks good Jim, and I can see the McDonnell similarities.

Could see a night fighter version seeing service with the F.A.A or perhaps Dutch and German navies used it ?

Captain Canada

Oh I like the look of that ! It's funny how I always thought that two-holed Vampire was ugly. Then, as I aged, I liked the look of it more and more. And this one just looks right.
