An ancient Airfix Spitfire model I rebuilt recently , converted to a supposedly  civilian Met Office aircraft registered G-METO , has a very weak port mainwheel strut. I've tried to repair it but to no avail.  Solution has been to mount it on a 12 inch square  diorama base of "dirty concrete" with red and white painted trestles under the wings and a Land Rover  parked close by.   Being of a frugal disposition (or possibly just mean, or even cheapskate) the trestles have been constructed from redundant  lengths of sprue. Others may wish to adopt this way of working round a difficulty with a broken leg.  The other option, which I've never tried but I offer as an alternative, is a sheerlegs arrangement  carrying a strop around the engine (just forward of the leading edge) holding the weight of the aircraft off a damaged/weak mainwheel leg. I'd include pictures if I could, but my digital camera has recently taken umbridge at something or other and refuses to talk to other electronic devices.

Would you like another landing gear leg? I

've got over 90 Spitfire kits of various manufacturers and marks and I'm sure one of them wouldn't mind donating a leg to a good cause.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Thank you very much for your exceedingly kind offer, but the diorama has turned out rather well so I think I'll  just  leave it as it is. Besides, Madame R has taken a fancy to the thing as it currently stands. I'm sure that someone else in this community will need a spare leg some day.

That's excellent, specially if it's on the 'approved' list at home.

There must be resin or white metal replacement kits that you can use as an alternative.
