They're still touting the heliplane idea, although they're called Skyworks now after going into receivership a few years back:

The main concept being plugged is an escort for the V-22, dusting off the DARPA Heliplane proposal that was shelved.  It's also being touted for the Army's FLRAA programme and is based on the Adam A700.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Thanks for the link! I am glad to discover one more twin-boomer with rotor, which is rather rare.

No problem.

Many modern gyroplanes have a single boom, this serves to get the rudder clear if the prop.

Quite a few have twin booms, I assume the reason is to get the rudder a out of the direct wash from the prop but take advantage of the airflow on the yaw effect.
Here's a few examples:

That Groen Brothers Hawk 6G is one violated Cessna Skymaster!
Strangely enough, I have a 1/48th Hawk Skymaster I built a long time ago in the drawer of wayward parts. This would be a weird whiff, even for me.
