Loved the first one, specially the photogs standing right on the runway's edge ducking while the Brabazon's wing passed over their heads! And the SIZE of the Beverley's Blackburn Universal Freighter's mainwheels!  :o I'd forgotten they were originally single ones on the prototype.

With the lack of any commentary it was an aircraft recognition contest too.  ;D

The highlight of the second vid was undoubtedly Jan Zurakowski's 'Cartwheel' in the Gloster Reaper. I was astonished when I saw him do it when I was there, and almost refused to believe my eyes!

Why did the commentator in those days call jet engines 'jet turbinns' though? I never could understand that when it's spelt with an 'e' at the end.

I was less than impressed with the advert that popped up right in the middle of the vid.  :banghead:

And yet more crazy photogs in the third vid, standing right on in the threshold's centre line while the Avro 707 lands right over his head! And as for the Short Solent flyingboat flying directly over the crowd at about 50 ft, he'd be locked up today!

A pity we won't see shows like that ever again, Farnborough having stopped the public days at their displays.  :banghead:

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Only having seen the Brabazon on film, it's hard to imagine just quite how big it must have been in the metal

NARSES2

Some amazing footage, cheers for posting

Certainly shows the changes to Health and Safety regulations in the intervening years  :-X

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

It was truly ENORMOUS, specially to an 8 year old me. I was used to seeing Hastings and Valettas and Dakotas, but the Brab was like being in a different world.

The Princess flying boat was even more impressive, probably because it was twice as tall as the Brab and almost silent compared to it. Watching it fly past was like the world was moving and the Princess was standing still!
