I wonder if that was because of superior training and also more than likely all her damage was from the top down, rather than from the bottom up (and Franklin  had her watertight doors closed) and so the Franklin's hull was intact, whereas the Taiho's wasn't?

On the other hand dad also told the tale of a skipper who had a dog on board, which on one long trip jumped overboard  Although he always reckoned it was booted overboard because it was a right little yappy so and so.
