Hmmmm, when it comes to cutting plastic this isn't quite as straightforward as I thought it would be. :(

It looks as if I've moved the whole wing back on the fuselage somewhat in my sketch drawing, either that or I've slid the entire lower part of the fuselage back a chunk.  :o

The AMT kit looks a bit more practical for the job than the Monogram kit, but the plastic is VERY thick. I think I'll need a bandsaw to do the cutting!

I'm going to start with the wings anyway, shortening them a few inches. Yeah, yeah, I know, how will I bring myself to actually do it?  ;D ;)

There's also the issue of the notorious 'dihedral brace' that AMT include to hold the wings on. They've moulded it with the wings in their flying position, with dihedral, whereas they ought to have anhedral when on the ground, but I have a cunning plan...... ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I remember a magazine article about how to do that, unfortunately the y didn't include much in the way of drawings or pictures to help which would go well with the AMT kit I have in the stash

From observing a number of B-52's that used to frequent YYC (Calgary International). when the wing is empty of fuel, the bottom of the wing is horizontal to the ground, the wing tip wheels being way above my head. The anhedral effect is because of the slope of the top of the wing.

Sawing off a length of the Stratocastle's wing.

There's a whole lot of other sawing to be done too, not the least because I've moved the inboard engines outboard quite a bit in the sketch. It looks very silly if just the outer engines are deleted.

But all that lot comes later on.

It's not the real B-56? Whew! My plans are safe for now.

I am intrigued, though.

With a name like Stratocastle, it would be cool if you could come up with some back story to explain a crenelated turret.

Perhaps it'll have a drawbridge for a crew entry hatch?  ;D ;)

And a boiling oil pump for a tail gun too...........

After cutting the wing to length and re-attaching the tip I had to re-trim the trailing edge outboard of the flaps, which will require some considerable thinning later on. However, bigger problems then became evident.......

The new position of the engine pylon in the pic means that only an outboard pylon can be used there as the inboard pylon is a lot longer and will protrude into the high speed ailerons, which in turn means I'll have to use the inboard pylon itself to blank off its mounting holes.

Even worse, the outrigger landing gear bay is waaaaaay to far aft now I've trimmed the trailing edge and it will have to be moved forward, goodness knows how though.  :banghead:

I keep misreading the title as Stratocaster...

That's what you get for fitting shorter wings!!!

Yeah.  :banghead:

Maybe I'll learn to do such silly things.
