Having seen a wonderful early Yak Jet fighter I realised that I could do something with an old kit which had donated its engine/forward fuselage to another project. Donor engines came from another kit which was not going to use the supplied engines.

The main airframe donor

The engine donor

How the fuselage looks before work starts on it.

The wings, both original span and cut ready to widen the space between the undercarriage bays and after being split in two

which also means longer wings

The engine nacelles without work being carried out

The backstory is still a work in progress but essentially is that East Germany decides to build it's own fighter in the late 40's early 50's with engines based on WWII engine technology which is why two engines were needed to power the aircraft and hence the builds eligibility for this GB.

Another Mustang.  Tophe will be pleased.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Interesting combination

You do know 'VEB' (Volks Eigene Betrieb, People's Company) is the East-German counterpart to PLC or Inc., and not a company name?

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

More than pleased: I am delighted! ;D

Right, tennis is over for another year and the group build is well under way.  The subject has been selected so let the cutting begin.....

First before the cutting

and yes I know the engine is missing but that is going to represent a Saber VII on a Fury, that's a prototype of what became the Sea Fury not a biplane though you could build one if you want.....

And after the initial cutting...

Some parts will be reused, the spine for example will be flipped around and reused on this build, the ventral intake will be donated to a P.1030 so as little goes to waste as possible.

More in a couple of days

Great hard work, still solid anyway it seems

Nothing done with saw or glue
the work is there and still to do
Mesurements have been done
so when out comes the glue it will still be fun

Back to the model makeing then,

Because I have split the wing into two parts I need some way to ensure that the wings are both at the same angle so I provided a new wing spar

The marks on the U or C section plastic rod show me how far to insert the rod inside the wing sections.

Like so.....

And this is how all the parts go together although in the picture the engines are behind the spar

Although when everything is assembled I intend to hang the engines from near their rear under the spar so keeping everything more realistic than it coud be although it will cause me lots of problems with the nose  :-\

Over the weekend I got a little moore done on this build, might get more done as I am off work today on holiday because it's my girlfriends birthdayand I have ended up all on my own this afternoon, apart from the cat!

New wing spar installed into the wings

And then the wings were fitted to the fuselage

Later today I hope to work on the nose and engine area or more likley fill up the holes in the rear fuselage as that's easier to do

More progress this evening, UK time.....

The hole behind the cockpit has mostly been filled in

Using large chunks of the original high back but cut down and swapped from one side to the other has means a little more work trying to get the parts to match up but it also means less filling etc afterwards.

An overview from the front.

The grey tray/box part that the aircraft is sitting on is part of what is/was the engine nacelle from the Ar234, has been added to help fix in place where the engines will go and also to help me see where all the filler etc will have to go to create the nose but progress is progress

So some pictures of a bit more progress

Looks a little bit "Angle of the North"

And just a mock up of the nose.......

I will probably end up moving the blue part, from a Matchbox Privateer, a bit further forward.

It's getting there though, lots of parts and areas defined now so I can plan the rest of the work.
