Right I'll start with the obligatory pics. of my starting point for this GB. I know what I want to do, the question is whether I can actually do it, especially within the time scale. Still I'll give it a go. First actions will be to remove the engines.

Ah, a modified Whirlwind (singe engine) is on my idea list for this GB, too. Looking forward to what becomes of this one here.  ;D

REMOVE the engines?  :o

You mean you're NOT going to add a third one on the nose?  :-\
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Yes and no to answer your questions in order  ;D

I'm going to build her in prototype colours as a proof of concept aircraft for a late war naval strike fighter proposal. That way will allow me to explain away one or two possible "difficulties" by saying "ah but that was sorted out in the production version"

The red team however refuse to play the alliteration game sending up the Focke-Wulf SMEG, Junkers Dyson and the Blohm und Voss Fisher und Paykel.

I made a single-engined Whirlwind years ago:

I hope the Whirlwind built here will still enrich the family. ;D

Progress.

The engines have been removed and I'm working on the undercarriage arrangement. I'm using the remains of the moulded nacelles as the undercarriage doors and that's where the thickness of the plastic comes in handy as it makes it a tad easier to thin down. The plan is to wing the first unit and then take measurements and try and repeat the exercise on the other side  :-X I am so far beyond my comfort zone with this that I think I may well have met myself coming the other way.

One thing I'd forgotten about this kit was the finesse of the raised panel lines  The last one I built was obviously a latter re-pop whilst this is an original.
