Bondic (glue)(well kinda...)

There's a new(ish) product on the market called Bondic. it's a kind of 'superglue' that stays liquid until you shine a UV light on it, then it dries super-strong in 4 seconds. It was developed by a dentist and a chemist, using similar chemistry to the UV-cured fillings that dentists use. It comes in a refillable dispenser with a UV LED light (like a mini-torch) on the other end. The manufacturers are keen to point out that it's not really a 'glue' (hence the title) but more like 'pre-plastic' i.e. fragments of plastic molecules that are kept apart by the charcteristics of the carrier liquid. The UV light changes the carrier liquid, allowing the plastic molecules to bond together. This means that you can make 3D shapes with it, and work/machine/finish it like plastic once it's cured.

I havn't tried the stuff so I can't vouch for it, but it strikes me as potentially useful in modelling, especially for rigging biplanes and ships and the like, as an alternative to the super-glue-on-one-side, accelerator-on-the-other technique.

Interesting H. Could be useful, be interesting to see if any of the magazines pick it up ?

Ooooooh, that sounds interesting.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

The glue arrived today but I havn't had a chance to use it yet.

Had my eye on this stuff here for quite some time now but I can never remember to actually buy it when I have "walking around money." I, too, am eager to hear of results. I didn't know about the building it up to make 3D things part. How cool!

Man.... so many times I found myself cursing CA for supposedly being something quick to set while the fiddly part I'm trying to secure remains floppy for the next 20 minutes. "Moisture/water activates it!" my arse....

Yup  :-\

I tend to find that the cheaper glues, eg the 3 for £1 type once opened lose their ability to stick quickly the quickest, but that's offset by their cost and I use them for larger areas of resin. If I want quick setting glue then I find the Loctite pen type ones are very good . However they can "go off" rather quicker than I would like  :-\

Any news on this topic?

This post spurred me into purchasing a kit that has the light tool itself, 4 oz. of the liquid plastic stuff, and a case to store it in to keep clumsy idiots like myself from crushing it all to hell and needing a second kit to repair it.
