Market Garden 75 years commemoration

I live in the Netherlands in Ede, very near to the Market Garden landing grounds on the Ginkel Heath.
Yesterday there was a big commemoration there. Here are some pictures.

There were two RAF C-130s and a large number of British paras.
Also a band of pipers from the parachute regiment.

Darn it, I managed to miss all of that. 

Some years back I spent a very interesting, and poignant, weekend near Arnhem going around all the 'Market Garden' sites I could reach. An amazing place for sure.

Some years back I spent a very interesting, and poignant, weekend near Arnhem going around all the 'Market Garden' sites I could reach. An amazing place for sure. 

Absolutely. I first went in the very late 50's or early 60's as a mate in primary school's mum was from there. She'd met her husband, his father, during the liberation in 45 and they asked if I'd like to go to keep him company when they went to visit her mum. Loads of military training sites with loads of old WWII armour to climb over. I assume they were being used as targets ? I still have some very grainy old b&w photos.

Subsequently went with the senior school as part of the twinning events and then a few times since just to visit the battlefields. Had some good "lads weeks" visiting WWI/II battlefields with the odd "horse and musket" one thrown in. That whole area is simply littered with them from Roman times onwards.
