It's early, but after a LONG search (this GB's topic sets really narrow limits) I found an eligible project on my list for a submission: I will spin my personaly alternative history of an independent Scotland further and build a model of the Republic of Scotland Air Corps (RoScAC)'s initial aircraft that took over air space defense duties: a Saab 39A in the later paint scheme.

The Gripen A was phazed out by the Swedish Air Force in late 2012 (and the aircraft mothballed or used for spares for the Gripen C/Ds), and the/my RoScAC was founded in late 2017, so that the time frame fits like a glove.

Not overly creative, but the GB is a good occasion to bring an idea to the hardware stage. There must even already be an Italeri Gripen in the stash for this purpose, IIRC.

A quick update here before things will start next weekend: I will just post the finished model, no WiP, because I have a deal with a friend who donated the Gripen kit to me.

Dizzyfugu

It's silent here because I was not able to work for a couple of days due to sickness. But things started moving, e. g. with the ordnance, and the Gripen itself. The Italeri kit is a simple affair and will be built OOB (after all, it will be a JAS 39A back at work after a 5 year mothball hiatus), but the thing needs PSR almost everywhere. Nothing dramatic, but some cosmetics need to be done.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Dizzyfugu

I do, thank you. Just stepped onto an allergy mine last week that took me out of action for more than four days...  :-\

Dizzyfugu

Good progress so far, painting has started. A Gripen in a non-all-grey livery certainly looks interesting!

Snowtrooper

European One wraparound perhaps? That makes any aircraft look like it means business

Dizzyfugu

No, a personal "invention" for the Scottish Air Corps, based on RAF colors and with a hi-viz addition.

All I can say is CRIVVENS!
The camo. scheme is obviously going to be the well known "Highland" scheme 1. Peat Brown/Heather Purple/Granite Grey over light Sky Blue.

Any aircraft can be improved by giving it a SHARKMOUTH!

I can just imagine scheme that Jim. Sounds very 'Scottish'.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I would think the undersides should be in "Overcast Grey"

I would have though "Lowering Grey" would have been a better name for the colour. ;)

Would "Dreich" be a shade too far?

Also, would the Scots AF fly Gnats and Midges, or are they naturally considered part of the local defence forces?  ;) ;D

Could we please stick to the core subject (even though there's not much to see/show right now)? Painting makes more progress, added some shading effects yesterday, now it's time to start with the decals.
