I also learned tonight that my masking tape will pull away that red 3M glazing putty I'm so fond of.  Just enough of the external layer that I get to slap on yet another coat and re-sand (yaaaaay   <_< )

There is why I always have the barest cockpits on the block - I'm too scared to build like that!

Great work. Intimidating, but great!

Fuselage is together, wings are attached. Even without elevators, engine, complete tail, the prototype has completed its first check-out flight in the living room...

Keep going Baz, you're just rounding the last bend, coming into the final straight....

Thanks, guys!  I'm at that truly boring stage of puttying, sanding, and repeat.
Trying to be very Zen about it.

So this was the one that started as the P-51D, right?

You've done so much chopping and hacking lately I can't keep track

Yeah, I think you're right.  I know what you mean: last night, I was dry-fitting pieces that will make up a new tailfin, wondering why they just didn't seem to fit or look correct.

I suddenly realized I was attempting to dry-test-fit the Morsair's squared off tail components to the T-51 Mustang derivative.

Yoinks!

Didn't like some of the flaws that were still quite evident in the finish so...here we go again...

My favorite part of modeling: MORE putty, sanding, and repeat...

Barry, sorry to see you had minor set back on the project, but please keep us posted with the progress reports and images.  Personally I like the looks of the conversion so far, with the exception of the "T" tail, I would have stuck with the conventional tail set up, just to keep it more in line with the P-51 Mustang lineage.  Now that you are almost done with the assembly, what do you plan to do for painting on this project?  Have you made a final decision on the colors and markings?  Will it be an armed trainer, or will you just put some drop tanks on it?  How about wing tanks like the Cavalier Mustangs?  Looking better with every new image you provide.
