Radial Engined Hurricane

In 1940 there was a sense that within the Air Ministry that the modern RAF aircraft like the Hurricane, Spitfire and Lancaster were too dependent on the Rolls Royce Merlin engine. Any disruption in Merlin production would put a lot of aircraft manufacturers in trouble.

So manufacturers were asked to develop variant of their aircraft with different engines. Hawker came up with a radial engined Hurricane, powered by the Bristol Hercules engine delivering 1350hp.

The lower weight of the engine compensated for the less streamlined form of the aircraft. In May 1940 full scale production was ordered as the Hurricane Mk VII. The first unit equipped with the radial Hurricane was 320 squadron which flew with Dutch pilots.

Looks good, but so wrong lol. I'd have to feel it in person and fly it around the room lol

Not the first radial engined Hurricane I've seen done, but it's a damned good one. But weird to look at when you contrast it with the Merlin version.

Contrast it with my Dagger engined version (which did get finished and it's not far from me now - I *REALLY* need to take some photos of it!)

Nice, apart from the lack of Sky band and yellow ID strips on the leading edges of the wings.  Czech Omega kit?

Nice, very good rhinoplasty. Grafting a radial onto the slender 'Came fuselage is not an easy task.

That looks like it belongs there. Did you find a front fuselage you could splice into the Hurricane, or is it all putty?

Beautiful job Tom, that looks so "right"!

That's a nice job Tom. I'm thinking Fleet Air Arm as a user,of a Sea Hurricane version especially on Escort Carriers ?

Martin H did a radial engined version in USAAC markings I seem to remember Ratty ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Mossie

I do think a radial sits well on a Hurri, great job!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

It's a kit - Czech Omega did a lot of the oddball Hurricanes and I have at least 3 (two seater Persia, Griffon and Hercules)

I did, with a dirty great engine from a curtiss hawk conversion that Airwaves did many moons ago. I must say, Toms Hurricane looks much better.
I always hope for the best.

experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Before reading this sentence, I was ready to conclude you are the very best modeller in the World  , increasing the fuselage perfectly to match harmoniously the larger engine, but... if this is commercially proposed, I should mainly congratulate the provider. But what you made for this subject is  is wonderful anyway.
