The other thing I learnt via that method was Pythagoras's Theorem. That was 1,000 times though  :-X

That'll be the 'square on the hypotenuse' thing, won't it?

Yup  ;)  I can still quote it to you in my sleep, but I won't

Yeah, me too. But I couldn't do McLaurin's Series or Taylor's Theorem any more, not that I ever found a use for them.

That quotation is wrong though, It's the Square of the Hypotinuse as you could have a much smaller square on the Hypatonuse and that won't add up  :-\   [/perdantic mode off]

I wish that there could be either an expanded version of Richard Payne's
Stuck on the Drawing Board:Unbuilt British Commercial Aircraft Since 1945,
or that the subject could be given the Buttler treatment, frankly the "all military
all the time" emphasis of the Secret Projects series gets a bit boring.

PR19_Kit

Yes, the Payne book is very good, but in a larger size and with more detail it would be exceptional.

Jon,

You need someone whose interested in the subject willing to do the research and then approach Crecy, Tony Buttler would happily give advice and direction to help, but its not a subject area that he's interested in. The other problem is that Military subjects tend to be documented in the National Archive as they are generally Government led. Commercial Aircraft programs are not so it falls to the Aviation Company archives for them to searched and interview those people still around to remember. The Brabazon post war family programme, Concorde along with the Airbus project would be better documented as they were Government driven.

While trawling through WHS looking for a particular railway bookazine (and failing...:() I came across one called the 'What If book of Alternative History'  :o

It loosk pretty good at first glance, starting off with 'What if Atilla the Hun had survived his wedding night?', and going on to 'What if the Berlin Wall had never fallen?'

Well worth £10 to my mind.

I normally have a look at the "Bookazine" rack when I'm in Smiths. Amazing amount of incredibly diverse publications.

During the Lockdown (should I suffix that with a 1 ?  :-\) Smiths stopped stocking a lot of magazines as their trade dropped. Couple that with a few of the publishers ceasing to supply them ( I assume there are some difficult profit margin negotiations going on ?) then the amount of hobby mags they are stocking has dropped and won't be returning to pre- Lockdown levels unfortunately. I've had to take out one subscription I wouldn't otherwise have done and might need another.

Interestingly whilst the number of modelling magazines they stock has dropped drastically the number of wargames mags' has stayed the same. Tells you something ?

WHAT IF Atilla had survived his wedding night? we all ask ourselves.    The conventional account from Priscus says that Attila was at a feast celebrating his latest marriage, this time to the beautiful young Ildico  In the midst of the revels, however, he suffered a severe nosebleed and choked to death in a stupor .   I should imagine that the new Mrs Ildico Atilla  wasn't happy!!

Somewhere, I've a book of  weather related what ifs; from a change of wind direction blowing William back to Normandy, via a hot dry summer resulting in baked earth and not mud on the Somme to John Stagg the weatherman telling Eisenhower "It's not safe to invade on 6th June."   ISBN to follow if I can find it.
"If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you....."
It  means that you read  the instruction sheet

Given Atilla's marital history she was probably quite happy about it, indeed some accounts suggest he was poisoned. Mind you do we actually have any balanced biographies of the man ?

Now the interesting one would have been if it hadn't started to rain on July 31st 1917 at Passchendaele ?
