I think it was  !  But then I would say that, wouldn't I!   His Masters thesis on "Steel dinosaurs?  UK tank design and deployment since 1945" was also a fascinating read.

Thank you people. I did feel that I would not be alone in my thoughts about the "B" word.
Now I feel happier.

Fair enough. I can see what you mean but it works o.k. for me. Beauty of the English Language that it never stands still ; as my old English master made me write out 500 times once 

The other thing I learnt via that method was Pythagoras's Theorem. That was 1,000 times though

Latest acquisition in my book buying spree:

Vulcan's Hammer by Chris Gibson.

I can't recommend this enough for Whiffers.  Focuses mostly on the UK  airborne nuclear mission with a LOT of abandoned projects and proposals covered.  Excellent stuff.
