Well, so much for me  getting  rid of the majority of my stash and not buying anything else.  I caved in to temptation and  bought myself  an Airfix  DH Heron mk2. I would have preferred the HS Dominie  but can't find if they are out yet.  This Heron is a lot smaller than I  envisioned as I have not looked at  a model of one before. I am thinking  RAF  transport command, and if I  have  any that will do the job  a set of three or four blade propellers or perhaps  some  alternative  engines  too. I will  look in to what i have it the bits boxes.

I've looked at re-engining one.  The standard nacelles are very slim due to having Gypsy Queen inline engines.  Turboprop RW versions have been built.  Details are on the wikipedia page here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Heron#Variants
Don't worry if you forget nose weight as IRL they were prone to tail sitting if they boarded the rear seat passengers first...
Cheers  Fred, I  think turbo  prop engines would  work well , but not  sure if they would  fit in with my 1950 to 1980 time line  unless the RAF  had some  modified of course. I will have to look at what I have  propeller wise too as they would need to be small ish.

I have a plan in the back of my mind to build a DH Heron as a DHA Drover which was done in real life.  It means adding a third engine to the nose, converting it to a tail dragger undercarriage.

As soon as Chris wrote '3 engines' I was thinking 'Drover'.

I need to stop  using my thumbs to  write stuff on my phone, but for  some reason  it  gets quite  uncomfortable for my  fingers  otherwise. Please feel free to chortle at my thumbs poor spelling, I  think that they  learned  from the police man in Allo Allo. I  now  need to measure the  diameter of the  standard 2 blade propellers  and see what I have that is  similar, and four of :banghead:

On order from ebay in the Ukraine:

Pepelatz Blohm und Voss P207.03, which looks like this:

I've been waiting for one of these for well over twenty years...

It was only afterward I started thinking of a British version using an Attacker with a buried Centaurus and a contraprop on the back.  Must get that Swift nose done...

That is cool...... it would be nice to have multiples of that one(well, for me anyway.... in a perfect world). One to build as normal, one or two to put into "captured" or some other whif simple paint swap and then others for making new planes!

It's not that difficult a shape to scratchbodge.  Back end of a Matchbox Do 335, Novo Attacker wings (solid wheel wells but the wing is in two halves so you can change placement).  Not sure what you could use for the forward fuselage, but some early jet is possible - Airfix Meteor?
Some info here: http://www.luft46.com/bv/bv207-3.html

I never did it, despite starting it with a load of cut plastic card shapes, due to sheer laziness and then dropping out of Luftwaffe altogether.  I will be doing this one as a captured one in RAF colours and possible with a squadron code.

P-38 or P-80 with a FW canopy.  An FH Phantom would be close-ish.

Rover did some small turbines in the sixties timeframe.  Mostly flew as gas generators for equipment but at least one was used as a turboprop in a Chipmunk:

A development of the larger one could power the Dove, or you could do it as an RAE testbed with one engine replaced by a turboprop.  The RAE flew several Devon's in various schemes including Raspberry Ripple, it'd make a nice head-scratcher.

Nice one Mossie,  another  marvellous idea for it. I  think I will  struggle with propellers  no matter  what I  do  with it  as my spares box is  not turning anything  useful up.

They did a 90 bhp single shaft turbine as well, a 1S90 rather obviously. A pair of them were used as APUs aboard the SRN4 hovercraft, and noisy little bleeders they were too!  :banghead:

I spent some hours standing right alongside one of them while taking oil samples in the middle of the English Channel. :(

It was the 1S90 that powered the Chippy.

New to my stash today thanks to Eduards Easter special, and obviously all Eduard.
1x Me109F-2 k F-4 early in 1/48 (it's destined to be a whiff)
1x Spitfire Mk.XVI low back in 1/72 (profipack edition) contains decals for AVM Robb's blue one*
1x Spitfire Mk.XVI low back, late wings in 1/72 (over trees only no decals
1x Spitfire Mk. IXe high back in 1/72 (over trees only) I'm sure I've got some freight dog decals that'll do.
*AVM Robb's blue one aka SL721 JMR, Eduard show it in a nice pale blue, which they call PRU blue? So not pale blue at all....
A quick search on the Internet gives a couple of odd ideas, first version with 3 stars rank plate, is called scheme D Light PRU Blue, definitely looks light in the b/w pictures, but I've never heard of Light PRU Blue? Later after a re-paint it appeared in a  2nd version which appears to be much darker, like you would expect PRU Blue to be in b/w photos. It also has 5 stars on its rank plate.
The funny thing is I'd always assumed it was painted RAF Ensign (light) blue.
I've also seen mentioned that the colour was mixed by a local car paint supplier?
Anybody know anything more positive?
Not made an Eduard Spitfire before.... Seem to have loads of extra parts (4 different M/wheels for example) could get confusing :o

Keith
The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

The first four bottles of an Amazon order of Tamiya paint arrived. All of the order was to the same sub-contractor, so why they're coming in THREE different lots I've no idea.  :o

This is a new venture for me as I've been a died-in-the-wool enamel user up to now, but while doing some decal work for Zac I needed some Tamiya paint to act as a match and I was most impressed. I'll see how I get on with them.

Mine are the normal size Greg, none of those 2 gallon pots that you have.  ;D

I've seen various colours quoted for Robb's aircraft and if and when I do mine, I'm going to use Azure Blue as it seems the nearest colour to at least one of the profiles.  I suspect that the later colour is indeed PRU Blue.

As for Eduard's Spitfires.  Yes, it could be confusing but as longs as you follow the distructions to the letter, then you should be okay.  If you're doing Robb's aircraft, then it'd likely have the post war wheels with the three spoke hub and the Eduard one is the only thing they got wrong with their Spits (apart from the overly complex breakdown) - they're too small.  They make the assumption that they're the same size as the wartime wheel and the tyre is the same size as the other one on the sprue, and they give you a bigger hub. Well, no, it's not, both the hub and the tyre are larger - the Airfix 19 gives you both wheels and the 3 spoke one is definitely larger.  You'll need to source a replacement set of wheels if you're going for that option.

Mk IX - if you're doing a post war one, it'll need the late wing with the heart shaped bulge inboard of the cannon bays.  But bearing in mind you've got the two lowbacks with post war wings, you could always mix and match the bits to suit.
