Object 279 was quite successful. This thing was FAST, and it could go where normal tanks would sink into the ground due to ground pressure issues. IIRC it was eventually rejected because of the complexiity of the running gear and the maintenance issues.

BTW, got myself a (new) Italeri AV-8A - primarily for the decal sheet, but now I find the Thai Navy option quite attractive...

Like I said "Not exactly practical". ;)

Quote from: wikipediaAnother reason was that a number of serious deficiencies of the running gear appeared during the trials. These deficiencies included low nimbleness, efficiency loss during swampy area crossings, complex and expensive production, maintenance and repair, and impossibility of reduction in the overall height of the tank.

Quote from: globalsecurity.orgAccording to the results of tests of the "Object 279", which took place in 1959, a number of serious deficiencies in the running gear were revealed. Thus, its adopted device entailed low turning power, loss of efficiency when driving on viscous soils, the complexity of repair and maintenance, the complexity of manufacturing and the impossibility of reducing the overall height of the tank.

It, also, had a very low ammo capacity (24 rounds for the rifled 130mm main gun).

L-39 Dual Combo (Eduard)
Something that looks like it might be a Yak-23 in Czech markings
TS-11 Iskra
BI-1
Il-96-300 (1/144)

I'll put up photo's when I have the kits.

OK, here's the photo.

As you can see;
1 x Eduard Dual Combo (2 kits) L-39 Albatros (Czech)
1 x Bilek Yak-23 (has Czech, Polish, Soviet &, surprisingly, USAF markings) (Czech)
1 x ArmaHobby TS-11 "Iskra" Bis DF (Polish)
1 x Maquette (Bereznyak-Isayev) BI-1 rocket-powered interceptor (Russian)

Not seen is 1 x Eastern Express Ilyushin Il-96-300 (1/144) (Russian), which is, hopefully, winging its way to Oklahoma.

Was this boxing:

I don't think I've ever bought so many (former) "eastern" European models in one hit. :o

Ordered from the Big H on Monday, delivered by Royal Mail this morning

Arma Hobby 1/72 Hurricane Mk.I. I'm told these are the "bees knees" of Hurricane models. Probably will be real world

Arma Hobby 1/72 PZL 7a. Possibly being built as one of the Baltic State air forces ? I now have PZL 7, 11 & 24 models. Plus the 50 which got as far as a prototype and the 62 which got as far as having some parts assembled.

To go with these 2 I also got Yahu pre-painted instrument panels. These are the only accessories I tend to get on a regular basis now. You simply glue them in and that's it. Make a real difference in my view and are excellent value for money.

It certainly looks like that, yes. I've had one for some time and it just oozes quality.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The Arma Iskra is also the best 1:72 kit of that airplane around.

It was because of our conversation at Halifax that I got it, and an initial look would certainly seem to confirm that . I only got the "basic" version and you certainly can't fault the price, that's for sure.

Oh, good! Thanks, Dizzy! It certainly looks good in the box.

Oh, I just noticed, the Yak-23 is, actually, in 1/48 & the kit looks to be of Eduard quality with 4 sets of decals & pre-painted PE ... & it seems heavy for its size (but I haven't taken anything out of the plastic wrap, yet).

The L-39s are, well, Eduard & look very good. Given the name (Albatros), I may build one up for the current GB.

The BI-1 is a little dodgy but looks like a bit of clean-up should get it build into a decent model. The English-ish version of the instructions calls the plane a "rocket interceptor", then calls it "the first Soviet jet fighter". I'm tempted to make the last comment "fact". ;)

Ooh! A French Ford!

Yup, and being the Tamiya kit she is almost on finals. Taken me longer to paint than build  ;D

Waiting for me yesterday when i got home from work:
Another Airfix Phantom FG.1
and a large box containing a Blue T-shirt with a white Rabbit on it,
an Eduard 1/48 Member edition dual combo Bf109G-6 (contains two kits plus assorted resin and stickers)
plus two overtrees for Fw190D-9's.
Yes I've joined Eduards Bunny Fighter Club. Have to see what that brings, as normally postage is the killer for me
when Eduard are doing there special offers.

Keith
The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

I think about a Swiss livery, though...
