I'm not sure if parcels are moving between the US and UK at the moment Kit.

Nor me, bit I wouldn't pay eBay's exorbitant International Shipping Scheme rates anyway.

That's what's stopping me getting one of those at the moment.

Hmmm, they're on Amerang's web site, but no price is mentioned.  :banghead:

I can't find anyone in the UK who's selling them but there's four from traders in the US, with prices from £13.77 to £21.07. But with postage costing WELL over £15.00!!

And this is before you factor in the usurious grabbing buggers at HMRC and their fascistic gestapo in the Royal Mail.

I'd like to obtain one of the Akatombo Firecrests due to the inavailability of the Magna one, but shipping and HMRC are putting me off.

The Wooksta!

Various parcels have filtered their way to me.

I was right about that Bird Models Bv 155C - it is wrong, but I can see just where he's gone wrong.  The Bv P.184 isn't bad but again, it's wrong in places, mainly the nacelles.

And that Daimler Benz?  it's fecking HUUUUGE!  Those are some geet muckle castings, so I know just where the money's been spent here.

Ebay says I've won the Airfix Beaufighter I was bidding on, but I snaffled another at a reasonable price, plus a Revell Hunter FGA - that's going to be my 607 Sqn one.

Another eBay Fairy visit today...MPC (Airfix) Space 1999 Hawk Interceptor.  Had this kit in its original form c.1978...cant wait to dive into this one!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

We, at the Post Office have been told by someone in the Black Tower in the city (state managers) that when customers are sending parcels from Aus to the UK they will be let through untouched by HMRC if the value declared on the customs form is less than 36 quid.
Anyone care to comment?

Sunday parcel delivery.  They must really be busy.
Mind you, it took 14 days for the parcel to travel 90km.  Maybe it was delivered by foot?

From BNA Modelworld.

I hope someone has told the HMRC about this then.

They're famously prone to making up their own rules as they go along and ignoring the Laws of the Land. It took a letter to my MP to get them to back down on charging me 150% duty on a kit costing £18 from Japan.

Starsky's hair looks much more accurate in that pic of the model itself.

I'm dubious myself.  After all, if its true what's to stop everyone declaring their goods are worth 35 quid whatever they are?   While we look at what is written on the form (so we can say "sorry, you can't send paint by air") we don't assess the valuation.  We don't even look in the parcel.  We leave that to the guys at the airport who x-ray every parcel and compare the customs form with their pictures before it goes on a plane.

When I send presents to my family in the UK I write in thick black texter on the outside of the parcel "THIS IS A GIFT.  TAX HAS BEEN PAID IN AUSTRALIA.  DO NOT CHARGE DUTY."
It's worked so far...

To be honest I've not bought kits from outside the EU so have not had to deal with HMRC, although that could well change come 1/1/2021  :-\

However the one thing I've never done is mess with the nice man from HMRC they've far more power then the local constabulary and can go places you really don't want them to. I've always been very polite to them and touching wood had no problems. Half the time when I've declared things at the airport they've just smiled and waved me through. When they have charged me it's always been the same amount that I'd looked up before I bought the article so no problems there either.

PR19_Kit

The Customs guys at the airport always seemed a lot easier to deal with than the nameless versions who hide behind web sites that won't let you in and phone numbers that are never answered.

After my 'MP's Letter' incident, the UK Border Force, who are in cahoots with HMRC and the Post Office, closed down all their phone lines, so we members of the public (who pay their wages....) COULDN'T contact them at all!  :banghead:

As we used to deal with Southend quite a bit while discussing possible changes to the Tariff I used to have a direct phone number and that helped a couple of times. Eon's ago now though.
