Another Airfix 1/48 Sea Fury from the eBay Fairy today, this time the export version.  That makes three total in the stash and one on the shelf...I really need to build one soon.  A US one is in the cards for sure.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Ebay says I've won this:

Saw it and liked the look of it. And I know exactly what I'm doing it as and where it'll be based.

I can't remember if "tools and such" qualifies but it's certainly going into the stash that is dedicated to models.  ;D

Found a bunch of this stuff much cheaper than usual so I took the opportunity to buy a lifetime supply. I went ahead and bought three of the regular metal handles as well in the case that the plastic ones in the disposable set don't allow the blades they come with to be switched out.

Now that's odd because all the Swann-Morton boxes I've seen are blue  Mind you yours may well be surgical quality which might account for the different boxes ?

As an aside I once had a tour around their works in Sheffield as part of my job and when I told them I was a great fan of their products they gave me loads of boxes  ;D I had to go through quite a rigmarole when I got back to the office so nobody could accuse me of accepting a bribe

Of all the blades I've used over the years, I've found the 15s to be the best and the safest to use.  I originally used the 11 and if dropped into the leg, it's nasty.  Did it once and if it had been an inch another way...  Well, I wouldn't be here now.

Those blades make the ball of my thumb ache, where I stabbed it with a box cutter this afternoon. :-\

(And I wasn't even modelling! :o)

This model (not this one, though ;)) sans the serrated blade - taken from the Bunnings online catalogue:

I believe it's down to how they're sterilized. Blue are non-sterilized while the red and green are. Of the two varieties that are sterilized, the red box is carbon steel and green box is stainless steel.  Now.... I don't know which is better... carbon or stainless?

I'm going to try to be careful.....   near miss on the femoral artery... yeah that doesn't sound good. Coincidentally I nearly dropped a similar style (but made by Testors) blade/handle into the top of my foot the other day... just barely moved it in time. Same type of blade..... ol sharp pointy wedge %@#!@$%

Almost seems your knives are conspiring against you.  ;D ;D   I like that blade, though.... first I seen with the caribiner like clip. I have some still, I think. People looooooooooove to steal the damn things though.  ;D

Put a cable tie round the handle of your exact knife.  It stops it rolling off the bench and plunging point first into your foot.  Surprisingly, while they rolled off plenty of times they always managed to miss my lower appendages.

Been in the mood for something colorful from the interwar era so today the nice man from FedEx dropped of a HobbyCraft P-26A.  Kit looks surprisingly good.  Decals look crap, but was replacing them anyway.  Also in the post a set of 1/48 F-105 Thunderchief in Vietnam deals featuring some young ladies who seem keen on getting their kit off.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

The blue boxes we buy for modelling purposes here in the U.K. are considered as "seconds" by Swann-Morton. Now when I asked what that meant, a long, long time ago, I didn't get an answer. It could be as simple as sterilised and non, but I always had the impression it was something else. Their quality control was, and is, extremely rigorous and the way razor steel (the starting point for the blades) was produced meant that there tended to be some at the edge of the coil which wasn't quite 100%. Mind you the production of razor steel was all very much a black art back in the day  It was also the second most expensive steel we produced. The most expensive ? The steel used for the production of the springs which opened cluster bomb units. Also produced within the "workhouse" at Stocksbridge.

As for carbon or stainless ? From our point of view the differences are negligible. Just be respectful when using the blade and let the edge do the cutting, don't apply to much pressure as you might snap the thing.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
