Have to agree with Lee, it's a lovely kit. I found I had to take a little more care around the rear cockpit shelf, where the turret sits, but a little bit of dry fitting to work out the right way and Bob's your uncle

I've done the turret bit already, as I used one on my Barracuda IV, plus I attempted to graft one into the back of a Hurricane. That was doomed to failure as the Hurri just isn't wide enough there. :(

I have plans for this complete Defiant already though.............  ;)

But I'm not quite sure what to do with the other two sets of turretless fuselages & wings.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Russian markings?  If someone did the turrets for the Polikarpov turreted bomber?

Would the Airfix wings take the fuselage of the Pegasus target tug?  Combining the two could make for a better kit.

Minor additions.

But many thanks to the two chaps as sent me some modern Ukrainian AF markings.

First up an antishipping MiG-31 and then something in the coastal patrol line.

But I'm not quite sure what to do with the other two sets of turretless fuselages & wings.

One could be a single seat fighter ? The other perhaps a two seater, but a dive bomber with the rear place occupied by a "traditional" gunner with a single Lewis m.g. Perhaps even F.A.A. early war or dare I say it Aeronvale ? Instead of their Vindicators ?

Good ideas there Chris, thanks.

I think the single seat Defiant has been done to death though, so I'll go with an alternate.

True, but it does suit it.

Any single seat Defiant is best done from either ye olde Airfix kit or the Pegasus target tug, because the new tool Airfix one has the rear fuselage splay out to accommodate the turret.  T'other kits don't.  Just pulled out a part built Pegasus TT to do as an interim nightfighter.

Ideas?  Change the engine to a radial (Mercury?) or perhaps a Kestrel, trousered or spatted u/c and a pair of Lewis guns on a scarfe ring in place of the turret.  Light bombs under the wings.  Markings for Habbaniya?  I've a feeling that would be right up Kit's street and put it in a similar timeframe with his Hawker Cyclone.

You reading my mind ? I had almost exactly the same idea, but hadn't thought of the Kestrel or Habbaniya for that matter. Even went to check the stash for a radial  and some spats .

TBH, I'm almost tempted myself, because I'd want the turret for a Beaufighter.

If you or Kit want to do it, I'm sure I can supply a resin Mercury or two.

My eldest daughter, the one who's NOT in the RAF, sent me a 1/72 Airfix Defiant for a Father's Day pressie.

Can't help but love a daughter who thinks like that.  ;D

What's this new tool Defiant like Kit, is it worth getting?

From my experience with the kit certainly Robert. It's one of the best of Airfix's recent tooling's which are all pretty good.

Feel free Lee, I'll almost certainly not get around to it

Right then, I'll keep an eye out for one at the LMS's. Thanks Chris.

How about a long canopy with a single gun at the rear and bombs recessed into the wings - a Battle alternative.
