I'm thinking of getting the re-released Heron Chris. Partly for nostalgia reasons and partly so I can build the one on poles outside the old Croydon Airport Building.

I'd forgotten about that.  You know i'm not sure I ever realised what it was up there on its sticks.

A few people I know don't even realise there is anything up there and they drive past it every day

What, this little thing?  :o

I will have a  look for some and see what I can find  Robert, if I find some  and they are not silly money I may just get some.

it would look really neat, something like this but bigger I would imagine.   ;D

Yes, the M&E Astazou nacelles only IICR, I used the Aeroclub nacelle fronts and props.  I had a thread on here only I think it succumbed to the PB debacle  ---- I called it the Beagle Turbo Terrier II.

EDIT: Nope, just had a check, the nacelles are all the M&E conversion, just used the Aeroclub props

Are M&E conversion sets available still, as  I haven't heard of them  until  now.

I've not seen any of their stuff for years I'm afraid Chris. They did a low pressure injection moulded Lancastrian conversion as well, and a clear plastic Jet Ranger fuselage too.

I purchased a second hand PM Yak-15 kit sometime last year and was disappointed that one side of it's intake was almost square, a few members here mentioned they didn't have that problem with theirs so I assumed it was a one off problem... I was wrong, received two more Yak-15's today purchased new from a shop and both of them have the same problem. The mould must be buggered  :banghead:

Use the intake off a 262 engine.  Hasegawa or Revell would be fine.

Long gone.  They're a good 30 years old for a start - I got a Spitfire Tr9 and the Jetstream in 1990 and they weren't new then.  I've seen single examples pop up on ebay but they go for daft money.  Except the Spitfires, they seem to go for less than a tenner but they are decidedly rough.

IIRC they only did 4:
Spitfire Tr9 (Dutch markings and geared to go with the Matchbox mk 9)
BAe Jestream (Navy and RAF markings)
Lancastrian (BOAC decals)
Bell 206 Jetranger (using the Matchbox Kiowa as a donor)

I've the Lancastrian and Jetstream conversions.  Had them for ages, the former to go with a second-hand Lanc that's been in the stash since late 1980.  In fact it was the inaugural stash item.

The latter was paired with a still-to-be built 1990s boxing of the Airfix Jetstream.

And yes, I think there were only four M&E products.  IIRC the Jetranger was a complete fuselage in clear plastic.

Have a word with Martin, he may be interested in cloning the bits for interested parties.

The nose on the M+E Lancastrian is too short - the only one to get it right AFAIK is Freightdog - and will need a 5mm spacer to bring it into line.

It was indeed, I've got two of them somewhere.

What was the 4th conversion after the Jetstream, Lancastrian and Jet Ranger?

I did mention the Spitfire Tr9...

I have a good half dozen tucked away.   Although the Brigade one is less rough and I have similar numbers of that one too.

Erm, why backdate a 47 to a 22 when there are vastly superior Spitfire F22 kits available? Surely the Airfix one isn't *that* hard to find? TBH, the SH kit is not great as a Seafire 47 to start with (too wide, too short, wing shape suspect), but you need to do a fair bit to backdate it to a Spitfire F22 (the upper wheel well bulges are bigger, the flap line changes and the radiators different due to said flap changes, not to mention the hook and the wing folds).  You're better off just building it OOB and using a snazzy desert or jungle scheme and explain away the naval mods as strengthening for use on unprepared rough strips, then try and find an Airfix Spitfire F22 to do the NMF one.

Try finding a 1/72 Airfix Mk 22 in Australia.
I have just built a SH Seafire 47 so I am familiar with it and know that it has the parts to make something close to a Mk 22 (low-back, griffon, five bladed prop).  And that's good enough for me.  I don't care about detail and shape fidelity like you do.  I just enjoy building models.
Having said that the website I bought the second SH Mk 47 from now lists one of their Mk 22's which wasn't there at the weekend when I was spending money.  Which is annoying.

I will pursue a different  route  to getting  some suitable engines for my Heron as  the M and E stuff will be hard to find.
Yesterday a weighty biox of goodies from Matt (sideshow  Bob) arrived.  Said box kept me busy and amused for a few hours  while I  sorted through them and put the useable stuff in their new homes.  There is a lot of 48th scale  ordnance  both  modern and ww2  of anyone is after  anything I  will happily  send it  on, just  PM me and I will  say what there is. I am starting to  venture back in to town now so I can  get to the post office
Cheers

That's the one. Mind you when youngsters do see her they are amazed by the fact that it's a genuine 4 engine'd airliner and not a scale replica. Come to think of it, so am I nowadays

As part of my Birthday Week celebration trip to the NC mountains I actually got to go in a brick and mortar hobby ahop today! Along with a selection of paints and tools I picked up a 1/48 Eduard F-86E
This is Hase styrene with resin seat, PE, canopy mask and a gorgeous Cartograph decal sheet for 5 different Sabres.

As an added bonus SWMBO noticed me contemplating a Tamiya 1/48 Mosquito B.IV so she got me that as a prezzie!

Not a bad start to birthday celebrations.

Not a bad start at all sir. Happy Birthday
