I've won a cheap (EUR 5,-) Revell 1:72 Do 335 (ex Frog). No plan for it yet, but I find the (rather whiffy) OOB two seat hightfighter attractive.

DogfighterZen

Received last week was a couple of italeri 1/72 planes, an A-10C and an F4U-7 Corsair and yesterday I decided to order a Mistercraft 1/72 Su-20M for less than 10€.

Never knew Frog did one.

From the first time I ever saw an illustration of the 335 it's always struck me as an almost perfect example of the triumph of brute power over elegance. As a youngster I never really believed the performance figures stated in the books of the time and as I got older always wondered why the idea wasn't pursued ?

Here you go.

Not a bad build as I recall, in their usual dark blue styrene at that time, and I think you could build the single or two seat variants.

Wasn't the B-6 variant a night-fighter Thomas?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Cheers Kit

I did build a 335 back when I was a youngster, and just checking Scalemates I assume it was the Lindberg kit in the mid 60's

In the book 'The Big Show', one of Clostermann's Tempest pilots came across a 335 while out on a patrol. He said it just turned tail on him when he started to give chase and it left him standing even though he had his engine cranked wide open ----

The Frog 335 can be done as either a radar nightfighter or a T bird.  You'd need to do a lot of work to backdate it to a singe seat.  Toad did a conversion for it back in the day.

Its a bit wooly, typically Frog, but the outline is bang on.

Thought so, too, when I checked for sprue pics of that kit. At EUR 5,-, I gave it a chance!

There were two Do 336 two-seat night fighters - AFAIK the version that was based on the trainer (B-12) with two separate cockpits (just the FROG kit) called the "A-6", but there was also a "B-6" which appears to have featured a smaller, streamlined bubble canopy over the radar operator's place behind the pilot, without the "hump".

The Wooksta!

There was an article in SAM in the 80s on it, how much upgrading it needed.

Combining the FROG and Lindberg kits might make for a reasonable single seater maybe? I think I've got two Lindbergs in The Loft, amazingly.

Why bother when there's a more modern kit available in the Hobbyboss one?

There's the Dragon/DML kits too, they do all of the variants, even a long wing one ---  ;)  I've got four [correction] five different ones in the stash

OoooooOOOOoooooohh! I didn't know there was one of them!

But do they fit? Dragon do make some awfully badly fitting kits.............. :(

Any kit fits, how well depends on the amount of PSR you need  ;D

The Dragon Do 335s are particularly ill fitting.  All their Luftwaffe stuff was bar the He 162 and the P.1101.  The Ta 152C and the Ar 234C were particular horrors.
