Wow, not seen one of those in ages.  I'd have thought the plastic had good Catalina water bomber (real or whif) potential?

That sounds like a really cool idea!! Gets the gears grinding.

I never knew Lodela re-popped that one.

Good find there Brad.

Cheers!!  I might have to finally build one.

Have yet to see an Airfix MiG-17 in a shop, let alone the Dogfight Double version.

The MiG-17 looks good. I had to check wikipedia for a list of operators.

When it first came out Airfix Magazine had a large poster with the box art on one side and 28 side profiles of users on the other. Some fascinating African ones.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I have that folded and filed in the coffee table in front of me as I type.
One of the modelling forums has a long series of posts obsessively explaining why the new Airfix MiG 17 is "wrong".  While it might all be correct (it's the profile of the leading edge and some other stuff) none of it seems to matter that much IMO as it looks like a MiG 17.  I'd like the option of a radar nose but that's just me being picky and anyway, the other two MiG 17s in the stash already have them anyway.

You could invest a few bucks into an old KP MiG-17 kit and transplant the air intake?

Concerning operators and schemes, here's also an inspiring resource (also for other aircraft types): http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww3/f/12

There's always some 'expert' who just HAS to find something 'wrong' with every new kit that's released, no matter who's made it.

But how many kits have THEY manufactured from scratch, eh?

Answer = NONE!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

That would be the one on ARC with pretty pictures.  :banghead:

I like the comment on Britmodeller "Of course the stark reality is that these issues won't concern most modellers".  ;D

Got one.  And a Hasegawa (also radar nose).  But I live in hope that Airfix will bring out a later variant.

There was a significant difference between the earlier  MiG17s and the later radar equipped ones.  The fuselage had parallel sides in the later ones.  The earlier ones didn't.  Just a word of warning...
