I'd like the option of a radar nose but that's just me being picky and anyway, the other two MiG 17s in the stash already have them anyway.

You could invest a few bucks into an old KP MiG-17 kit and transplant the air intake?...

Got one.  And a Hasegawa (also radar nose).  But I live in hope that Airfix will bring out a later variant.

There was a significant difference between the earlier  MiG17s and the later radar equipped ones.  The fuselage had parallel sides in the later ones.  The earlier ones didn't.  Just a word of warning...

Noted.  Thanks mate.

From BNA model world a Hasegawa Ju 88.  Primarily to provide radar aerials for a GB build but also because I have never built an 88.  Initial thoughts involve a fuselage mounted Flak 37 in the anti-shipping role (an 8.8 in an 88).

You mean a Ju88P then?

As a more whiffy option: there were plans to mount a recoilless 356 mm (14 in!) gun - basically a huge and long tube that fired a shell forwards and a counterweight backwards - under twin-engine bombers like the Do 217 (or the Ju 88...) as an anti-shipping armament with more punch:

Correct.  The proposed Ju88 P-5.  None of which were built.

I had a birthday during the week and my colleagues presented me with a gift card labelled "to be spent at the model shop".
So I bought this which I have been wanting for a while.

Happy  belated birthday Fred
My hasegawa  F-102a arrived this morning, I  remember building one as a kid and getting  frustrated with the  weapons bay doors as they  looked like a  concertina.  This kit has 6 of the the vague representations of falcon  missiles, the 106 has just 2. You would have thought that  they would have  made a bit more effort with the missiles, as the weapons set versions  are nothing  like them  :banghead:
Nevermind.  I am  thinking of a  different  job and different  operator for this  as I want to build it as a 2 seater.  It could well  get standoff nuclear weapons or Martell missiles, with the  weapons bay sealed up and  used for extra fuel.

Thanks Chris.
I closed up the missile bay on my Dagger.

I think we should sing him a song, but he's 12000 miles away so he wouldn't be likely to hear it. :(

'Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday too yooooouu' etc etc.  ;D

Closing up a Hase F-102 weapons bay is the best thing to do with it, if you can. NONE of the parts actually match each other!

On other things....

That's NOT a Do-217! It's a Ju-288. Even I know that and I'm nowhere near a Luftwaffe experten. Whoever produced that page, despite it being very interesting, isn't one either.....

Many happy belated returns Fred and it's good to see your co-workers know what you'd like
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

You probably couldn't hear it from where you were sitting, but I engaged Madame R (a former Edinburgh Festival Chorus  soloist) to sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY   in a South Easterly direction as soon as I realised it was your birthday.

All the best from all of us!!

A few nice finds this week, all at what I thought were good prices either on eBay or various online sales.

1/72 Hasegawa F-117

1/72 Hasegawa AH-64

1/48 Hasegawa WAH-64D. Cant figure out yet if it is actually a UK Apache or just decals.  The fact that they call it "Royal Army" doesn't  fill me with hope.

1/160 Moebius 2001 Space Clipper. This will either be in airline markings or maybe an AF1 scheme.

1/48 P-26 EZ Rigging

A few nice packs of decals including P-51s, Corsairs, Lightning F.3A & F.6, and Xtradecal's What-If TSR.2 Pt1, all in 1/48.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

You sure about that? AFAIK none of the 88 series had endplate fins, they all only had the one fin... But I'm no experten either...

Snagged these at $70 a pop (after shipping and tax). You know, it's only just recently that Oklahoma started collecting tax on online purchases and sometimes it sting a bit. Right when I think I've gotten used to it I'll make a purchase that reminds me of the new reality.

Thank you my friends for the birthday wishes and singing.  I appreciate it.

I have a variation of that A Model Yak in the stash Brad C and built one a while ago.  It takes commitment but it's worth it in the end.  Make sure you wash the parts.  Those in mine were still sticky with what I presume (and hope) was mould release.

Junkers seemed to switch from single to twin fins alternately.

The 188 had one fin, the 288 had two (perhaps logically  ;D) the 388 went back to one and the 488 had two again. See the Wiki pages below.
