Thanks Chris --

It occurred to me that I'd never seen a photo of a Javelin with the drop tanks on so I went searching -----

found this pic, not of one flying though.  But have a look closely in the bottom right, this would insinuate what you've just done ---

If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Ah, not seen that picture before, I  wonder what the script  is with that bomb  being there? Did it drop bombs or did they have  nowhere else to put the bomb  perhaps.  Or just to  get people  scratching their heads  ;D

The photo was taken at Manston in 1982. I don't know if it's still there or not.

According to the survivors list on Thunder & Lightnings it isn't there anymore?

None of the serial numbers listed match it either, so I presume it's been disposed of in some way?

edit : ukserials.com says scrapped at Manston in 1990
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

We've almost a surfeit of Javelins in these parts, there being two of them at the Jet Age Museum on the north side of Staveton Airport, and FAW4 and a 9. But then the Flatirons were built around here anyway, and most made their first flight from Moreton Valence airfield south of Gloucester.

In passing, you can pretend you're flying a Flatiron on a first flight while driving down the M5 as the  motorway just south of Jct 12 is laid right on top of the airfield's runway!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Yes having visited the Jet Age Museum twice now, I can say that it's a nice little museum  ;D Looking at the Thunders & Lightning list, I'm happy to realise I've visited 7 of the 8 remaining complete British-located Javelin's, I definitely need to plan an expedition to Norfolk & Suffolk to complete the set!  ;D

And yes, the Javelin mud mover looks great, very interesting to see a tactical (fighter/attack) aircraft in that camouflage. Did the people at the Beverley painting factory not notice when it crept in!  ;) ;D

Hi Chris. I know what you mean re the decision over your dog, had to deal with a very similar one myself once. One of the hardest decisions I've ever had to take. Best of luck to you on the 20th as well.

As for a Javelin armed with bombs ? I swear I saw a picture of one so armed many, many years ago ?  I know they carried rocket pods along with the Firestreaks, but they would have been for air to air use, although I'm not sure how much use they would have been, given what I've just read about NORAD's experience with something similar.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

XH764 (7972M) was finally Scrapped by Hanningfield Metals, Stock, Essex, by April 1990.

Sent home for ground instruction at Shawbury after a heavy landing, broke down and was grabbed for a gate guard at Manston.
I can only assume that after 20+ years of outdoors display it finally succumbed to corrosion.

This will make you cry.... https://www.facebook.com/manstonhistorymuseum/posts/having-posted-some-pictures-of-manstons-gate-guardians-i-thought-you-might-like-/794893100583275/

Well it'd make for a great diorama, but yes sad to see :-\

My version  would  probably  have  been baked  for most of its life as a mudor should I say  sand mover, as it's new home  in wiff world  would  be  somewhere like El Adam airbase  in Libya,  or thereabouts.  Paint scheme could  possibly have been  added  after  it arrived  in the middle east.  It's a shame to see what happens to  our great aviation history, but unlike the states  we don't have the space or dry weather for them to survive.
I have decided to give Thor my dog a  chance at survival, I am not a gambler  but  he deserves a chance  and send him  for exploratory surgery.  Very expensive  but  you can't put a  price on your best mate  can you.

A Javelin would have counted as just overspray in a Beverley paintshop.  ;D ;)

Captain Canada

I like it ! Looks great in that scheme ! Now I want one. In truth, it's an aeroplane I've never seen, not fondled the kit to get a 'feel' for it. Better get on that !
