I picked up a 1/48 Hobbycraft Arrow on E-bay a few months ago...

So I got some resin for it...

Cockpit, wheel wells and intakes/exhaust

The only trouble is, I think they were designed for the retooled kit, which this isn't.

Never mind....just takes a bit more work!!

First job is to remove the locators for the original cockpit (I say that loosely)

And cut out the nose wheel bay

And here's my first problem....

The kit item is back to front...or side to side...whatever...it's the wrong way around...

So I've just cut it out "square" and I'll sort it out later...

An AWESOME machine indeed!

I'm keeping my eye on your build as I have a couple of 1/72 vacform Arrows (thanks Robert  ) that I really should build before much longer.

Nice ! I'll be watching this one as well. I have most of those resin upgrade kits, not sure which one I'm missing. I had always wanted to build one operational using them. I also have the newer tooled kit. I recall at the time it was nice, but not a lot of bang for your buck compared to the original !

As i couldn't find my Dremel last night, I had to continue by hand, so not as much done as I'd hoped....

Cockpit walls and nose bay fitted....

Had to make a top for the nose bay, as it doesn't come with one, due to the way it's moulded.

Well, I didn't expect this to be a simple build, despite, or maybe because of, the simplicity of the kit, but omg!!!!



The fuselage has a warp so big, I swear I saw Capt Kirk!!

And the resin is really thin in places....

And then there's the fit.  I had suspected that the resin was for the newer retooled kit, but I didn't expect it to be as different as it is....Nothing fits!

But, I have a cunning plan....



At least for the exhausts.  I will remove the very thin exhaust surrounds and replace them with plactic tube of the correct diameter.   Not sure what to do about the intakes yet....

I would suggest cutting them about here ->

If I did that, I might as well use the original kit ones. I might do anyway, as looking at photos of the real thing, they seem to be more rounded top and bottom than either the kit or resin parts are, so surgery will be needed no matter what.

As for the exhausts, I plan to find some larger diameter plastic tube and replace them.

They tried, they really did, but they needed better researchers and quality control people. If I recall correctly, they got the flap actuators upside down as well. The old Aurora kit was probably just as good/bad, and it dates from the time the plane was still flying!

Ouch ! Is that ever different ! Remind me when I get home to dig out the new mold kit and see what they fit like !

Luckily mine is the updated old mould, which has them on the bottom, where they are supposed to be.

I suppose it's quite hard to research something when your government ordered all documents destroyed.  Give them their dues, it's an injection moulded Arrow, no matter how bad!

Amen to that ! And they can be built into a nice representation by a little scratch building and beer.

Dug this one out again.  Sanded back the main wheel bays and upper wing until things almost fit.....

Managed to get the wings together....
