With the Londthyrian Confederacy moving away from its traditional policy of armed neutrality following the collapse of the Philippine government, and subsequent 200x attack on the MV (Pax Ship) by a MILF-aligned warlord off the north coast of Mindanao, the Londthyrian government put out a request for proposal for a medium close air support fighter-bomber.

Gymraeg Heavy Industries, having modified and built P-61Cs and Es and F-15A Reporters under license for the Londthyrian Air Service during the Pacific War (as World War 2 is known in the Confederacy), submitted their design based around the P-61E. Changes to the design included new avionics and radios, AN/APG-79 AESA radar in the nose, weapons deployment capable hardpoints, LITENING pod integration, a pair of Mauser BK-27 27mm cannons. Single-point refueling and IFR receptacle and probe allow for quick refueling turn arounds and multiple refueling options airborne. The tandem cockpit has a set of basic flight controls for the weapons system operator, allowing the crew to switch off during long-duration flights.
Prototype flights began in 2007. The FGR.1 version was rebuilt from boneyard survivors and is powered by a pair of PW Double Wasp-derived aero-diesel engines, rated at 2,800hp. Acceptance into the LCAS began in 2010, with type IOC (initial operating capability) with 227 Squadron (AC) in 2011. The FGR.2 replaces the Double Wasps with a pair of RR AE 2100 turboprops (rated at 3,000hp); both inboard pylons are wired to support SNIPER pods. FGR.2s began rolling off the assembly line in 2015 and were accepted into the Londthyrian Air Service in 2017. The type remains in service today, and was involved in Operation Buccaneer, the Confederacy's combat role in the Cascadian War of Independence in 203x.
