Lockheed Viking AEW4

Meanwhile the build off the Lockheed Viking AEW4 also started. Here some first pictures I'd like to share.

At first all in normal. Start is, as always with the cockpit:

I decided to put in a pavla cockpit in as the airfix one is really poor in detail.

After closing the fuselage halves a gap of 2 mm was left of the slightly too wide pavla cockpit (and my lack of checking)

But, nothing to worry about as putty will close the gaps. But, oh what's happening...that tail is totally the wrong way!

Ah, that's what's happening: the radar disc is going on top off the tail. Engines are from an ancient Matchbox A-10 (the grey plastic was getting yellow!) and are supposed to go on the leading edge of the wing.

I've had that happen with Pavla cockpits I've used too.

I think their rulers need re-calibrating.................

I'd like to be associated with those comments. They look great, but do they fit ? Do they heck. I got a lot when I got back into the hobby as I though it was the thing to do. I still have most of them and I doubt if they will get used the fit of the ones I did try was that bad, non existent in fact.

I'm glad it's not just me. 

Some of them are OK, others need vast amounts of the fuselage moulding filed or Dremeled away before they fit. Don't they ever test fit them?

I Use the pavla cockpits often and most are ok-ish. They always need trimming...some more than other though...

I forgot I was too lazy to check the fit anyway. I should have known better. Anyway, it's fixed now and putty number 2 is curing. Time for an update:

The rudder needed a wider chord, so a 747 stabilo was cut to fit.
