Play worn diecast vehicles for whiffery concepts

I too have repainted Dinky,  Corgi or Matchbox cars, vans and the odd truck for my nephews and nieces to play with. They are now at the stage they tell me that they have out grown them. From what I can remember most of them are the large size 1/43 or Superkings.
The Dinky Austin Princess is a favourite of mine but I refuse to pay the silly prices on a certain auction site,  parts are available including the plastic window mould. However the furthest I got in metal work at school was a bottle opener.
There are videos on YouTube that show you how to restore diecast cars and Kit did send me details of the Leyland Princess Owners Club which has a concept convertible.
So a project of converting one into the Morris or Wolseley seems feasible to me,  cutting the roof off and rescribing a new doors could also be achieved.
Recycling old diecast vehicles has many options as there is so many decals to choose from.
Jumble sales and car boot sites are a good starting point as well.

I found a box of some left over at my father's house when we emptied it. I have seen a couple of the youtube videos and have been thinking of incorporating some of these into dioramas also. Might be fun.

Well how about this for a coincidence! I posted that last night, and this morning, rooting in the back of a drawer, I found this:



That's an actual Matchbox SpeedKings Soopa Coopa (Hot Wheels was Mattel), which appeared in an original run Tank Girl strip called Booga's Luck.

Totally forgot I had that: it must have been there for at least 35 years if not more.

I used to own one of those and had the plastic track with the loop-the-loop. This was the at the time in life when I also had the Evil Kenevil set for Christmas and raced each other,  yes the plastic windscreen broke and if my memory serves me right the car ended up in the vegetable patch by the rear gate.  Decades later when riddling the soil I discovered the car, worse for wear. Ah happy memories.
