Ollie

Here's another one for you guys.

Smer 1/48 R.2000, a POS by all means.  I took the scheme from a recent SAMI that featured R.2001...  White areas are all masked and painted...

Decals are from a Superscale sheet, the wheels are Bf 109K-4 resin dealies.

Exhausts were made with 1/48 Monogram rockets from their Typhoon kit.

Paints are Gunze, home-matched to Italian specs!   B)

Propeller is a Monogram 1/48 DC-3 prop, the one in the kit was utter crap.

Don't you think it looks like a wee P-35 or P-43??

Most of the SMER 1/48 Italian aircraft kits are remoldings/reboxings of the Artiplast kits of rather long ago (think Aurora with a shade more accuracy).  To some degree, I think POS is an understatement here.

I knew SMER kits were usually reboxed, but the results are quite pleasing, and for a cost of 10$, plus 4$ for the wheels and I needed the aftermarket decals for another project.

So, let's say 20$.  Still 30$ less than a Classic Airframes kit!

Yes, they did have the advantage of being accurate in outline, whatever other problems theymay have had.  If memory serves me correctly, most, though not all, of the Artiplast kits were like that.  The one real "oops" that I know of that way was when the top and bottom wings of a 1/48 G.55 didn't ahve their halves of the wing cannon line up.

I have read something about that, but I don't remember, which one is a famous secret copy of the other? Italia avoiding to pay, or USA?

If memory serves me correctly, some Italian engineers who had worked for Seversky moved back to Italy and took info with them in their head, hence the resemblence between the Re.2000 and the P-35.  Now, the two lines of development diverged wildly after that - just compare the Re.2006 with the XP-72 as the respective end points of each series of evolutions.
