I've only managed to do it twice, and only once on a model, an F4U-1 Corsair.

The 2nd time was on my dining room's walls..........................  ;D ;)

I have a feeling I am being too neat with my demarcations.

In the background a Boxcar engine & cowling and the beginning of the Highspeed Bomber's nosegear.

Being one of those folks who has nothing to do with spraying pigments of any type, I've always been a proponent of sharp-edged camo/paint jobs.  However, there have been times when a bit of blurring is needed - for those times I use a stiff brush and stiple - almost dry brush and stab at the work-piece with the end of the brush.  It takes a bit of practice and patience, but a good result can be had.  You do need to have all the colours involved open, though, so there's an increased spill hazard.  :)

Did you fade the dining room walls or have a hard edge Kit?
And did you use both semi gloss and non-specular Sea Blue?  I can imagine that conversation in Bunnings B&Q.
"Matt, eggshell or gloss finish sir?"
"10 litres gloss and 3 litres non-specular please."
"Non-whatular?..."

Anyway, I girded my loins, fired up the airbrush and blurred my demarcations.  It looks messier, but that is truer to real life and I think it is an improvement.  I should look even betterer when it's had its final coat of satin clear and its all the same sheen.

Edge between the Int. Blue and the white is a bit speckley but I later discovered that the trigger mechanism of my airbrush had partially unscrewed itself and was simultaneously sticking and leaking.  If it's been like this for a while then it explains quite a few things...

A comparison of hard & soft edges.

I think I would have done a better job if i'd airbrushed it from the start instead of brush painting it and then fuzzing in the edges.  Next time i'll airbrush it from the start - i've neem thinking about an RAAF Mitchell in this scheme.

Oh yes, faded them. That was the whole point of it, but they were all non-specular colours, or 'matt' as they called it.  ;D

And I did the sitting room in Japanese bomber camo during the same decorating session, green over orange, but a hard demarcation that time.  ;)

Main transfers are attached.  Stencils still to come.  Well, those that will show up against the paint anyway.

Thanks guys.
Got the rest of the transfers on today - the stencils that would show up against the dark blues.
Started working on the PE spinning prop and the torpedo.
The prop is Photoetch and meant for a Skyraider.  This makes it about 8mm greater diameter than the standard kit one.  Noticeable if it was sitting on its legs but I hope I can get away with it in flight.
First stage of working on the prop is to put it in the freezer.  The destructions tell you to do this in order to get clear backing film to "de tack" so it can be peeled of both sides without damaging the prop.

This build made me wonder about a more converted mutation of the original idea, since the Thunderbolt is so huge - move the cockpit forward, add a 2nd crewman with a rear-facing turret, and change the underside to a torpedo bay with doors (due to the deep fuselage). Hmmm...?

Turbo plumbing occupies the belly of a Jug, but yeah.  That would be the TF2S Revenger...

;)

My thoughts exactly, but the gunner would never suffer from cold feet.  ;D

Of course it's only huge in relation to, oh let's say a Wildcat.
Compared to an Avenger it's medium sized.

Well, I'd get rid of the whole turbocharger installation, anyway, also closing the louvres on the flanks and change the engine to a less fancy R-2600. After that, there's ample space inside of the airframe for a weapon bay and probably for a longer greenhouse, maybe even a dorsal turret... Kind of a baby Avenger for small escort carriers, saving space.  ;)
