Oh wow, THAT'S my old Privateer kit? You've done it proud Brian, it looks great.  :thumbsup:

Any Privateer model is impressive, but the Turbo REALLY looks the business.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Thank'ee Gentlemen.   The model was no problem.  It went together quite well, even if the nose doors went missing!  I chose the simpler transport version because well, it was simpler. The multiple coats of white and yellow were a bit of trouble.  Yellow needs at least three or more coats to "take", even over white.

Do the nose doors on a Privateer open outwards or inwards?

I recall that the B-24 doors opened inwards, not sure why though.

Somewhat oddly I've subsequently found pics that show both methods.  :-\





And similarly with B-24s, some open inwards and some outwards.

My brain hurts.................

That's the Erco Ball Nose Turret, beloved of the US Navy, who had them fitted on their early PB4Y-1 Liberators and the later PB4Y-2 Privateers.

It's certainly a very smart looking turret, unlike some of the others.

They were also fitted by Consolidated to the nose of the B-36A's purchased by the RAAF in '45 when they realised Lincolns didn't have the range they required.  Or they will be when I get to that build...

Actually that'll be quite an engineering job, considering how wide the -36 is compared to a -24.
