It's not that Kit, although thete seams to be as many angles going on as there are on the bridge.  None of the structure that I have added to the wings is forming a  right angle in any of three dimension to the part it's fixed to.  :banghead:

Are you sure you're not building the Forth Bridge Alastair?  ;D

And here is the proof

It's also the first time in an age that I have used my set of "Helping Hands" as well.

The next picture is a comparison picture of the Frog/Novo wing against the Airfix wing which shows that I will need to scribe where the wing fold is on the upper wing surface.

But that's for another time I took the picture now because I was about to add the roof for the undercarriage bay

Admitidly the picture does show the plastic sheet, 4 x 6 scale feet in size, clamped in place so it conforms to the curvature of the inside of the wing

More later as I need to go out to get a new fine Stabilo pen as the one I have is temperamental at best, there is also a chance I can get the currant Scale Aircraft Modelling magazine as it has a nice article about the Specail Hobby SMB-2 by Yoav Efrati who does stunning Israeli aircraft.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Work has slowed on this today, but I am making progress, just not as quickly as I would like. Just found out that I have to trim more of the wing rood side back a bit more so the skinning for the undercarriage bay roof can fit

TBH, I've a feeling this is going to look a bit like a Blackburn Firecrest when it's done.

Similar but different. There are only so many ways to designe certain aircraft types.

OK, so the end of today's modelling is the wings in one piece!

Top view

And the underside with two ru**y great holes to fill with undercarriage, detail and gubbins and then skinned

There are a few other bits that will need attention

So this is what a dry fit looks like so far with just the Firefly fuselage added

And with the Sea Fury fuselage added, or rather what I am using of the Sea Fury fuselage  ;D

At the moment there is a slight omission, the powerplandt and fuselage between that and the rest of the aircraft but it's still fairly early stages of the build and it might not finish for years

The wing extension has been covered with strips of properly measured plastic card but not trimmed or filled yet, that will wait until the wings are joined to the fuselage. So now my attention has turned to the interior of the undercarriage bays and what to do for the undercarriage. So this is roughly what I have come up with

Yup, lots of black wiggly lines on white plastic card, Got it in one!

Seriously though it's just a rough sketch of what I intend to do. I will be using the Firefly's undercarriage legs, as seen on the left, but giving them an extension by drilling out some 0.07" plastic tube which has to be bored out to take the 0.06" diameter undercarriage leg  :o

I'm still deciding how accurate I want to be with the leg to wing junction, do I want to use a small section of larger plastic tube glued to the bay roof as the socket for the undercarriage or do I want to go the whole hog and build an actual pivot point  :-\

Anyway, back to the picture. The white  roughly parallelogram towards the trailing edge of the undercarriage box will be blocked off as it will not play an active part in the undercarriage bay. The semi circle area is the area where the wheel will be so needs to be left clear of anything bigger than stringers and the like. The shaded areas will defiantly be covered with skin and probably blacked out.

The line near the front of the bay is for the extension/retraction jack while the other arm I have no idea what it's name or function really is but I am guessing that its to help stop the undercarriage moving forwards or backwards on landing thus absorbing some of the forces involved in naval landings.

I'd do all the sanding on the wing now, because it's easier and more importantly, you can see if both sides are equal and square without the fuselage distracting you.

There was a series of articles, probably in Scale Aircraft Modelling about the Fiarly Firefly. This set of articles went into great depth and was almost a frame by frame walk through of the aircraft. If I could find it, or anyone else, it would be of great benefit to what I am attempting to do with the undercarriage bays.

I know that it is not a pair of articles in Volume 19 of Scale Aircraft Modelling as they were part of a series called "Under the Hood" which depicted cockpits of various aircraft types.

Thanks in advance for your help guys

The Wooksta!

Sounds like something from the Ian Huntley column.  He'd worked for Faireys post war and I recall he did a few posts on the Firefly.

He could bore for England, that one.

If you've any idea roughly when they appeared I might be able to help. I do keep my old copies but I haven't got an index I'm afraid so I need a steer.

As can the guy who does the current "Colour Conundrum" column. He did a 3/4 page piece on the exact colour of Royal Navy carrier deck lift colours ? ? :-X
