Well, I cannot help gullible people with poor sight and text blindness...
But it's easier to rail at others than confessing that doing some (more) legwork and source confirmation would help. (Sad) Victim culture.

BTW, my pics are no photoshop composings, they are rather taken "as is", just with some editing.  ;)

Yup, sometimes it's a lot easier to just put your hands up and whisper "mea culpa"  ;D

See, this right here..... this very thing.. has given me pause in the past. I've even had people questioning a couple of MY (whif) builds thinking they were of real subjects......    On one hand, it's flattering. On the other, it's funny. But if I were to have a third hand........... I think it might truly be concerning about the real effect we're having on "history." Could there be actual moral complications? 100 years from now, through nothing other than pure happenstance, some of what we do will more than likely be taken as gospel and we'll have infused "Fake History" into actual history.

Just a thought.  ;D

Old Wombat

You mean like that's never happened in the past?

It's even happening now, as people re-write history to suit current morals, social trends & political leanings, happily slandering the dead & "refuting" previous historical records (often without any proof of their own) because "in the olden days people were bad & lied". :banghead: :banghead:

Slinging a few whifs into the mix is only going to improve things, in my opinion!
Has a life outside of What-If & wishes it would stop interfering!

"History is written by the winners" as one of my old history masters was fond of saying.

Changes to perceived history are fine when new evidence comes to light, but as Old Wombat says that's not what is happening nowadays in my view. Both sad and dangerous.

Any effect we have on perceived history will be very minor and in a very specialised area and will only occur because people are to lazy to do some research. So don't worry about it as it won't have any major consequences .........................I hope  ;)

Not necessarily.  Most of what I have read and watched about the American War in Vietnam has been written by the losers - Americans or Australians.

Only because any histories from the Vietnamese side have not been readily available in the West yet.

Also you have to remember that when my history master was imprinting that statement into my brain the war wasn't history, it was still going on. Indeed a guy a couple of years above me was killed in Vietnam after returning home to the US when his folks returned home.  :-\

May be a generalisation, but I think people find that classifying events that occur during their youth, maybe even their lifetime, as history is difficult. Gets easier as you get older, but not when it's only 20 years or so before.

I also personally differentiate between memoirs and personal stories and "general" histories based on official or unofficial records. The two need to be read in conjunction in order to get a better understanding of an event or era. Although that is difficult the farther back in time you go. Also memoirs etc tend to be published a good few years before any general histories.

History is things that happened before 1977, which is the earliest I remember what were then current events (i was 10).
After 1977 they are things that happened "the other day" and I refuse to acknowledge just how many years ago that was as that would mean accepting i'm getting old(er).

Similar to me, except my start date is 1962 when co-incidentally I was 10 as well, but more importantly the year the Beatles had their first UK hit and ushered in the "modern" era. At least to my mind

Earliest news report I can remember was that "guerilla's had attacked a hotel".  You can imagine what my young mind made of that...

Yup  ;D

I can remember the news report of the first Sputnik launch and its associated visuals giving me a really bad nightmare about the Russians invading us from space. One of the worst I've ever had (I haven't had many, touch wood) and I was 5. So that will be my first news report memory.

Mine was that WWII had finally ended, VJ Day in that case.

But I was in Egypt at the time and it all seemed to have zero relevance to me, apart from the fact that had a big cake to celebrate the occasion.  ;D

I was almost 4 then.  ;D
